I'm going to be buying a new Apple computer sometime in the next year. I know if I screw it up I could end up getting 1-2pt/$, but I was wondering the best place/way to purchase. I'll be spending around $3000 so the difference in pts/$ is definitely worth some research & planning imho.

I'm looking to get Chase UR points or United miles.

For example, I just bought an iPad Air from Staples through the Mileageplus Shopping portal using my Chase Ink card, so I got 9pts/$. That's a huge difference, and with a computer it would be an even more important difference.

Problem is office supply stores don't sell Apple computers, only some of their devices. The Apple Store (not the iTunes store) is on MileagePlus shopping and Chase UR portal for 1 point usually (every now and then 2). I've never seen it higher than 2.

Also they don't sell Apple gift cards at office supply stores, so right now it's looking like the best I could get is 3.5 miles (2 from a portal when there's a "sale" and 1.5 from the United club card). I'm looking to hopefully get 5+/$ if possible.

My cards:
Chase Ink
Chase Freedom
United Club Card

Thanks!

Did you ever get the answer to your question???? I'm looking for the same answer. I plan on purchasing a MacBook Pro soon and was looking for the best price per point. and I'm looking at the same price range you are. My initial thought was to use chase card in office supply store to purchase Visa Gift cards. Amazon does not have the unit I want.

If you must buy from Apple, then the way I've done it is to buy VGC at office stores, then buy Apple GCs online (not iTunes GC). You can use 2 CCs per order or up to 8 Apple GCs per order.

Can you purchase Apple GCs at the apple store?
I'm assuming I can use Apple GC's at the store.

My math works out like this --- tell me if I'm missing something
Visa GC's: $200 each
Apple GC's: 2 x $200 = $400
Use 8 Apple GC's for order = $3,200
I'm expecting my purchase to be under $3,200 but over $2,800 so this is right where I need it to be.

I don't know about the store. I bought GCs and made the purchase online. Also you might get an extra 1x going through UR. And do a store pick up instead of shipping if you need it right away.

This was all over a year ago so maybe details are a bit different now. I used $500 GCs then and didn't try buying an Apple Store GC with two Visa GCs.

Your previous post in the Credit Card Programs forum was merged with the consolidated iPhone purchase thread in the same forum, which I responded to Here.

As a side note, this is very close to Cross Posting, which is against the forum rules. Please be mindful of the forum guidelines, which are in place to keep the forums cleaner and to make information easier to search for and read through.

My chase ultimate rewards shows 2% for apple store. If you have multiple chase cc with ultimate rewards, check all of them, each card offers different rate.

Shop Discover offers 5% cashback. Discover doesn't have anything lower than 5%.

ShopDiscover 5% does not include "pre-orders", but of course it might still work, but i stayed away from ShopDiscover this time.

Normally ShopDiscover would say "iPhones (new generation)" not eligible for 5%.

Buy it from staples.com using Ink, and go via ShopDiscover or UR (CSP/Ink). You will get 5 UR points, 1% VSE discount, 5% Staples rewards, and 5% from Discover or 4 UR points from UR.

I'd happily skip the bonus points from using gift cards so I can get better warranty with AMEX.

Many people purchase AppleCare for the convenience, and for those people, AMEX's extended warranty doesn't quite have the allure. In general, I completely agree, though.
