Paying?

Awards?

How many Points with whom?

Do you have any Status?

If Paying then Air France Non-Stop at $14,413 Each, or you could save your money and put it towards a deposit on a home.

Alternative would be BA Via LHR if you have BA or AAwards but you are competing with 2012 Games in London.

UR->UA and book LH C/F. From what I've seen in my limited searching, LH pretty reliably releases award inventory close to departure date (as long as there is space, of course...) so your late notice may work in your favor.

If it's a surprise proposal, wouldn't flying F to Europe kind of give a hint towards it?

I say Y/Y+ on the way there, J/F on the way back

I agree, plus you can keep costs down if that is of concern.
Take a non-stop revenue flight NYC-PAR in Y/Y+ then fly back in F.

LH are good to release F close in plus you get to use the wonderful FCT in FRA if you time your flights correctly

What if she says "No." Might be an awkward flight home.

I suppose with enough lead time her F ticket could be downgraded to a Y middle seat with no recline. Oh, and throw in a request for her to get a MOML meal.

The Concor... oh wait...

Since you're setting yourself up for a possible 'no' make sure your tickets are redeemable. So that you'll have her in couch on the way back while you consider the next prospect in the front of the plane.

My plan is to use points to book the flight.
She wont suspect anything from flying first since i talk about it so much.
Lastly, she wont say no 100000%

so pretty much ppl agree on LH?

Oh, i dont have status.

Does it have to be nonstop?
Doesnt have to be but its preferrable.
If there is a layover, i prefer that its not a long one.

Moderator action

I have merged in a similar thread from earlier in the year, reviewing the previous posts may prove helpful.

AA first doesnt seem very good.
AA international first class is excellent, but it exists only on 777 aircraft. AA flies 767's to Paris and these have only business class. 777's are operated JFK-LHR.

Consider business class. Availability will be much easier, cost much less, and in F you actually will probably be more separated from each other. J is hardly a roughing-it-in-the-backwoods experience, especially on a relatively short flight like NYC-Paris (about 7 1/2 hours eastbound and 8 1/2 hours westbound). Just be sure to get the window seats, as the 777's are configured 2-3-2 in J, and you'd surely like the privacy of not having someone next to you.

As Mia mentioned above, does 777's have business to CDG or I would have to fly to LHR on 777?

Any airline flying this route will have business class.

I'm not positive, but I think the big surcharges on BA are only for flights into LHR. So if you can fly AA into LHR, I think you can return on BA and the fees won't be too bad. You'd have to check though.

If you are insistent on 777, you will probably have to fly Air France. It looks like BA and AA fly 767's out of JFK, and United flies 757's out of Newark. You could exchange SPG points for Delta miles and book on Air France.

This is a great way to rack up miles if your school doesn't charge a big fee for using a cc. I am also in law school and pay my entire tuition on my the day before scholarships and loans disburse. Since my balance is already paid off at the school, they deposit the entire sum into my checking account, which I use to pay off the cc bill.

The only airline offering first class nonstop between New York and Paris is, indeed, Air France. (Not all AA flights on this route offer first class, only the 777.)

Several other airlines fly this route offering business class. The Birish Airways subsidiary Open Skies operates EWR-ORY. It may be possible to redeem Avois for flights operated by this carrier, but their cash prices are reasonable.

Alas, British Airways adds a substantial fuel surcharge on all BA-operated longhaul flights, and these are also reflected if redeeming AA miles for an BA-operated flight -or- if redeeming BA miles for an AA-operated transatlantic flight.

AA does not offer first class to any European destination except London. AA's 767 business class is mediocre for an overnight flight because the seats do not fold into beds.

How will you make sure she has her passport if you're truly going to surprise her like that?
