For AA, call them up - they have a status challenge program. $120 to sign up for challenge to Gold (equivalent to US Silver) and $240 for Platinum (equivalent to US Gold). You have to fly 5000 EQPoints for Gold, 10K for Platinum in 90 days. Keep in mind that's POINTS and discounted economy fares are only 0.5EQP per mile. So on deep discount fares, you'll have to fly 20,000 miles for Platinum.

You can only start a challenge on the 1st or 16th of a month.

As for DL -- https://www.delta.com/planning_reser...atus_match.jsp

I was only charged $200 when I signed up for the platinum challenge last week. They gave me gold because I asked them to match my elite DL status (silver). The reason I did this is because I wanted to access the sweet preferred plus seats on 2 very long itineraries. Even though the Gold is temporary, I was able to get the free premium coach seats for flights in April of next year for my wife and I. I also moved us to some premium seats for our Xmas flights this year, even though she had a different reservation, I just called up and they moved her non-elite status seat to the elite-only seat next to mine.

I just hope my Amex Platinum $200 fee waiver will refund this. Otherwise, just need donations to Susan Komen... :)

Did you already pick AA as your Amex Plat preferred airline? Or is it DL since you're already on DL? You only get the up to $200 total reimbursements from your one chosen airline, not across any/all of them.

Yes, I chose AA over the phone when I initially called to sign up for the plat challenge. I should know if the refund worked in 4 weeks, and if not, there's still time to try again before it resets on January 1.

FWIW, I've status matched 3 airlines from Delta this year:
1. FROM: Delta Platinum Medallion (exp 2/14) TO: Emirates Gold (exp 10/13)
2. FROM: Delta Diamond Medallion (exp 2/14) TO: Turkish Elite (exp 11/14)
3. FROM: Delta Diamond Medallion (exp 2/14) TO: United 1K (challenge 35k "qualifying" miles in 90 days)

So, you are DL Diamond Medallion and managed to get UA 1K, that's good... I am AF/KL FB Platinum Elite and got UA Gold. I complained, arguing that FB and SkyMiles are two parallel programmes with same benefits whereby Platinum means Platinum if not Diamond, but UA replied that their marketing department determined that AF Platinum is equivalent to DL Gold (and no matter that I am Platinum for life, by the way). I pointed out that in terms of benefits, FB Platinum is pretty much like 1K, and it's not my fault if there is no higher level in FB (except the invitation-only Club 2000 / Skipper, similar to Global Services with DL I guess).

I also got the TK match, but they never sent me a card dspite reminders, and systems in other Star Alliance airlines don't recognize the number, so was pretty useless so far.

How did you get the match with EK, whom do I have to write to ?

Ive you want the TK card

You need to credit some activity into it. Maybe do a card rental or hotel stay. Even a *A flight will do, just a thought.

How long ago was the flight? Did you get email confirmation from TK like this?

Your flight from Denver to San Francisco with United Airlines, UA0989 on 04.11.2012 has been credited into your Miles&Smiles account.
You have earned 954 status miles for the related flight.
Your updated mile info is ;
Total miles : 1954
Best Regards
Turkish Airlines Inc.

I haven't received my card yet, but my qualifying flight was only 10 days ago.
If yours was more than 3 weeks ago, I would call.

I would email them, or credit something else. Personally, I do not like to credit flight activity, but rather car rental or hotel stays. I just do not like to have too many "orphan" miles in other foreign programs, when I can make better use of them "locally". Good luck, as I'm just beginning my process.

ma91pmh Nov 15, 2012 8:48 am

yeah I will give them a call. it was many weeks ago. it was a short-hop dca-rdu but agree i'd rather have had the miles in my usair account but figured would be worth it for star alliance gold card

Can't see many EXPs and 1Ks taking advantage of a status match to virtually useless FF program.
