Just got a targeted offer of 40,000 today; was thinking about it, until I saw 80,000. (What am I, chopped liver?!)

So that being said, your letter should say somewhere when it expires. They usually always have an expiration date on them. I would wait and see if a 100k offer comes available before your offer expires unless you need to use the points ASAP.
I really think that Citibank wants to get more into the miles/points game like Chase & AMEX and will offer a 100k soon somewhere.
+1 I recently saw an envelope addressed to a former co-worker with the 100k TYP bonus offer plastered on the front. I never get the good targeted offers....

There should still be a non-targeted 50k offer you can sign up for (see milesbuzz>special credit card thread).

Is this a good deal? I don't have a Citi card and just signed up for the Chase Marriott rewards card. I haven't seen any discussion about this deal on FT.
Comments please.

Can someone please verify how Thank you points are used and calculated. Are they used the same as airline miles (and on what airlines?)

Got the 80,000 offer in the mail today. I was thinking I would go for it, but may wait a week or two to see if a 100,000 offer appears.

Seems like this might be a nice card for short flights or when you don't have enough FF miles for everyone in your group/family to fly free.

Just found this online. I suppose if this were done with the 80,000 deal you would net 120,000 TYP

90,000 ThankYou Points with Citi Premier Card and CitiGold Checking

by The Points Guy on November 16, 2011

Citi’s Thank You points program isn’t the most lucrative points program on the market (my main gripe is that you cannot transfer those points to any airlines or hotels), but the points are still valuable because they can be used to buy any airfare and hotel and they earn miles and elite status. You can also use points for gift cards at 1 points = 1 cent. Signing for for the Premier credit card and CitiGold checking account can net you up to 90,000 ThankYou points – enough for $1,197 in airfare/hotels!

The Citi Thank You Premier card offers 50,000 points when you spend $2,500 within 3 months and the $125 annual fee is waived the first year.

Card Details: (Application link)
Earning: 1.2 ThankYou Points for every dollar you spend on purchases at supermarkets, gas stations, drugstores and commuter transportation/parking merchants.
1 ThankYou Point for every dollar you spend on all other purchases.
Redeeming: 1 point = 1.33 cents towards travel, 1 cent towards gift cards
Anniversary bonus: 1-3% of the points you’ve earned that year
No foreign Transaction fees
Card: You can choose either Visa or Mastercard

So basically, those 50,000 points points can be used to get $500 in gift cards (including Sunoco) or $665 towards airfare – plus you earn miles and elite status on any flights/hotels booked with ThankYou Points.

To get an additional 40,000 ThankYou points without getting another inquiry on your credit or worrying about doing the “two browser” trick, you can open up a CitiGold Checking Account by 12/31/2011 and then enroll the it in Citi ThankYou Rewards. Within 45 days after account opening, complete one direct deposit AND one electronic bill payment for two consecutive months. The minimum opening deposit is $500 and there is a $30 monthly fee unless you have either 1) $50,000 in all linked deposits/retirement accounts 2) $100,000 in all linked accounts including investment accounts 3) $250,000 or more including Citi mortgages.

The TY points are good, but the companion pass is worthless. You have to book a ticket through an overpriced portal, then you get the "free" companion pass.

After giving your suggestion several days thought, I decided to go ahead and apply for the card. My thinking was now that the holidays are just around the corner it would be more likely I would be able to meet the $3000.00 spend in 3 months. If my wife were to get the card she could probably meet the spend in 3 weeks instead of 3 months. I hate shopping and other than filling my car with gas and picking up a gallon of milk, upon request, I never go into a store. If it were up to me I'd still be wearing my bellbottoms from college. Additionally I figured if they did come out with a higher points bonus I could always send a SM asking for the point bump. I applied this morning, was instantly approved and should receive the card within 2 weeks. Now I have to figure out how to meet the spend.

Good going. I thought the same thing, easier to make the spend before the Holidays.

You can always ask to have the card overnighted to you.

You can add your wife as an authorized user to help you meet the spend target Also, CITI usually does not do the adjustments on the signup bonuses.
