I did the login/logout tricks mentioned on the last couple pages and finally got the 60k offer. Applied and approved 4 days later via email. 50k for first use, almost too easy. Thanks Chase/UA.^

My wife and I each applied for the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer Visa using the 40K offer in December. We were both approved and received our cards last week. I called the customer service number on the back of the card and mentioned the new 60K offer. The woman was very nice and said that Chase has the policy that if you see a better offer for a card that you have applied for within the last 90 days, they will put through a request for you to receive the better deal. So my wife and I should now be eligible for the 60K. :)

i got a continental onepass card with 50k after first use in november. i just applied for the united card, got approved, and recorded a convo with rep through the phone where she says i'll be getting another 50k on first spend, even if i have the continental onepass and it was opened in november. does anyone else have experience with this, and did you get your points? i know of the policy that says if you got the second card after mid-2011 that you only get one bonus, but i was wondering if the taped audio convo could be useful.

What state are you in, and did you tell her you were recording the call? Because taping a phone call is illegal in many cases, in which case it would be of no use for getting points :D

In many states if the credit card company has a "this call may be recorded for..." message, you can also record it without notifying them. IANAL, YMMV, etc.

And although the company may intend "may" to mean "might" ("This call might be recorded (by us)") one could interpret it to mean "can" ("This call can be recorded (by you"), i.e. a granting of permission to you to record their phone call.

There's no set amount of time. Some people call in same day and others it takes a week or so. When my wife applied and was not instantly approved, the reps were very nice but said they could not do anything yet as the computers still had it in que. The reps are able to see your credit report and any concerns that are hanging it up. She was approved 6 days later, credit report and history were great, but having acquired two chase cards in Sept then Oct was the hold up.
Data point: She just cancelled the UA signature 7 days ago, but it wasnt even mentioned. Ironically, after she cancelled, we received a thank you for your continued signature business, and her replacement card came in the mail today. Two ships passing in the night.... |

Yes.
I have, still active, both an old UA signature card and a CO OP card (opened early 2011), and have received the Explorer Card in November, and have the 50,000 miles sitting in my account as of last month. |

When I called to cancel my CO card, they offered a credit that was $15 more than the renewal fee, so I kept the card.

wow congrats lucky you. I tried the same thing end of Dec since my fee was start of Jan. She made a comment something like "You are not eligible to have your fee waived."

I waited until my fee was posted before calling. I think I gave it a couple of days after that.

FYI, just got my 50k bonus for the MP card.
That's on top of the 25k bonus I got a couple of months back for the Chase OP card. There was a belief that you couldn't get both bonuses after July 19th but I applied for and got both cards well after July. Now, just need to cancel either the OP or MP card before they convert the OP to a second MP card. |
Just something to note on my application:
When applying for Chase cards in the past it was possible to move credit lines around and still maintain the same total credit line with Chase. When calling the recon line today however, I had two cards reduced by ~7500 to get approval for 5000 on this new Explorer (net loss in total credit almost 10,000). They said it was largely due to new lending practices that were not in place in 2009/2010 when I had previously moved credit lines around, and that this more accurately reflected the exposure they were looking for (the total lines now pretty much match my annual income, so it makes sense). I'm not overly concerned by it, just a bit disappointed that I can't really piggyback off my wife's income anymore (which is almost double mine) when it comes to credit lines. |
