Amex points usuage

So I need some help redeeming points.

My wife and I would like to go to Florida using our Amex points. We have about 46k points maybe more by next month. We are looking to probably travel to PNS from 5/4 - 5/9.

Right now I can get 32 A+ credits for Airtran and get a free ticket. The ticket is about $450.

The 32 credits would cost us 35840 points + a $25 transfer fee.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

It would be helpful if we knew where you are flying from. Do you have any status on any airline?

I'm seeing roundtrip airfares on several different airlines for only $240 per person on your dates. Seems like a waste to use your Amex points if the fare is that low. If you do want to use the points, won't Amex let you use your points at the rate of one cent/point to purchase regular airline tickets? If so, 48,000 MR points should be enough to buy the two tickets you need.

But it would be less in points to transfer amex points to A+ credits. It would only cost udner 36k points. instead of 48k points buying the ticket through amex. And since I am not platinum I dont get the 20% in points back by booking through amex travel site.

Are you getting TWO tickets or ONE ticket for 36K points? You original post talked about the cost of ONE ticket for 36K points: Right now I can get 32 A+ credits for Airtran and get a free ticket.

Theres also a 40% BA bonus, so you could get BA miles and book American tickets. Theres also a 50% Delta- their domestic awards are usually 40,000 each.

Cheapest I can find on Delta is 50k miles per person. So that would require me to transfer 70k points to get enough to get that ticket or am I doing the math on that wrong?

You need to check airtran flight availability for your dates before you transfer. You might transfer and find your dates not available or the flights might have long connections or be at times you dont want. Pay with Points is much more flexible but you might cough up extra points to use it.

I have checked the dates and they are available. Not really worried about if by the time the points get transferred they wont have reward seats since I am extremely flexible on date's.

I just want to get the most out of my Amex points. So I am looking for advise on how to use the least amount of points to get from ROC to PNS and back.

I think the best way right now would be to transfer 36000 (with no transfer fee) to BA.. which will =50K miles, and redeem for two American Airlines domestic tickets @ 25K a piece. Saves you the xfer fee and a couple points.

You can search availability before you transfer on BA's website once you register to be in the Executive club.
