I'm seeing roundtrip airfares on several different airlines for only $240 per person on your dates. Seems like a waste to use your Amex points if the fare is that low. If you do want to use the points, won't Amex let you use your points at the rate of one cent/point to purchase regular airline tickets? If so, 48,000 MR points should be enough to buy the two tickets you need.
But it would be less in points to transfer amex points to A+ credits. It would only cost udner 36k points. instead of 48k points buying the ticket through amex. And since I am not platinum I dont get the 20% in points back by booking through amex travel site.
