30% more BA miles for MR conversion..."good" deal?
received a snail mail offer yesterday to convert mr miles and then receive a 30% ba bonus if done before the end of the year.
i have not seen an evaluation of this deal here...is there any reason not to take this bonus if i want to get rid of my "old" mr miles to have them sit in a ba exec club account where they can easily be converted to aa miles...or am i missing a catch here?
there is some fine print about costing 0.0006 a point with a maximum fee of $99 to convert points to an american carrier...but from my position i am happy to close out the amex and stop paying the annual fee on that card and not be forced to use the miles...am i missing a downside or a better opportunity elsewhere? thanks.

doing the opposite
funny I should run into this post, as yesterday, I was contemplating what to do with the left over '100K offer' miles from my BA account.
I signed up for the Premier Rewards from AmEX and decided to convert the orphan BA miles into MR points, which in turn can be dumped into my newly, yet nicely stuffed CO OnePass account at a 1:1 ratio.............it is however, 1300 BA Miles to 1000 MR pts, which I think is good though...considering I cant do any real damage in terms of a Z award ticket on BA/partners for the 27,800 miles I have.......

Per Mia, Amex MR has only been partner since end of 2009, so too early to see if recurring. However, I do see a 30% on Marriott MR from 2007-2008, so it may not be as special as people think, especially with the YQ on BA. YMMV.

I seriously doubt that is possible.

transfer MR points
I think their are a lot of people in this situation. I wrote to Lucky about this just tonight.
I collect most of my miles on the ground. I have accumulated about 180,000 MR points. Mainly with the Amex Premier rewards gold card.( personal/business) I have a time bomb ticking, because I would prefer not to pay the annual fee.Therefor a transfer. Their are some unique choices this year.
1.move them to BA and get 30% bonus. However, when I try to use them on a partner for Business or First the mileage requirement is high because of the how BA calculates. Even worse when I use two partner awards. ( Am I correct?)
2.move them to Delta for a 50% bonus. ( That doesn't seem like a good idea)
3.I have always had a hard time accumulating a large amount of UA miles. Got some with cc, but never wanted to push Chase too hard. I couldn't move Spg or MR to UA. So for the first time I can get points to UA via the CO/UA merger.( next year)
4. I could get the AC credit card and start with 25,000 miles and move the MR points.
5. I could stop being so cheap and pay the annual fee, and keep the points for their flexibility?
I would love to hear your comments, may even be a topic for your blog?
Thanks Jim

This isn't a bad deal if you cash in for AA flights (e.g., standard 25,000 miles for a domestic trip). Not so great if you cash in for international flights given their fuel surcharges.

Don't think if you move these MR to BA that they will work just like AA. They should on a domesic coach, however on a first/business you will need more miles. Do a search on AA, then do a search on BA using AA and you will see. A two partner award on BA can cost up to 40% more miles.I just did a search TPA/SXM first AA wanted 70,000 or 75,000 miles.Do the same search on BA using AA and they want 105,000 miles. That's why they can give you a 30% bonus for making a transfer. Move those MR to Delta for 50% and see how many miles they want for an award.

Already took advantage of this offer and may transfer more. hard2please is correct, there is no fee for the transfer. The transfer cleared overnight.
I've booked domestic AA tickets for 25K a half dozen times or so in the past without a problem. Definitely worthwhile for me.
