I've tried GIG, HNL, LAX and some others stuck in the middle, with no luck so far. That ORD-YVR-YYZ sure looks purty, though.

Wow, this is indeed a very nice run.

I booked myself a comfortable run from ORD to MEX via Canada and Brazil for Fall. Should be an awesome trip ^.

A very big thanks to the OP ^

So far, I'm only seeing layovers (some overnight) in South America. If anybody finds a way to stopover in South America, please let us know. Ditto for a routing back through the U.S. (and particularly IAH or DFW) before the onward journey to MEX. No points for guessing why.

I just picked random dates in late March, and still bringing up $693 or so pricing. So keep checking dates.

One can book their EZE-MEX flight the day after their SCL/GRU-EZE flight (likely w/in 24 hours). Gets into EZE mid-late afternoon, then leaves EZE late the next morning. One would have to add a flight MEX-home after that.

Have heard mixed reviews about MEX as a "destination"....

Taxi rides to/from EZE are 45 min. each way at least, depending on traffic, and the lines at EZE can be a bit long. Nothing in the way of "airport hotels" to speak of. (TONS & TONS of info. in the South America forum, and on the AA forum (since AA flies there & well, UA doesn't )

Cow Do info. in the Community Buzz forum.

Have been trying other brasillian stopovers, like IGR (ah, Iguazu Falls!!) but no luck...yet...

OR, if you NEED OW miles, throw on AA's EZE/MVD hop & back during the EZE layover, if your times allow. Probably the shortest trip on a 767 ever (as in, do they even bring the landing gear up? short), min. of 500 miles per seg/1K r/t., usually really cheap....but, only if you're already at EZE. I wouldn't make a trip back from town to do that.

If you can snag a daytime flight b/n SCL & EZE, get a window seat---the views over the andes are incredible!

You can get almost 2 days in Brasil by going via my home on the "return" to MEX.

IND works nicely, giving IND-DFW-YVR-YYZ-EZE-MEX for $650 something on xpda.com

I'm going right up to the purchase screen, and all seems well. Nice options on LAN connecting EZE-LIM too. Too bad it's in economy and not FC for those sections. Still a decent price from other cities.

Here are the details:

It looks like a 23 hour layover is possible in GRU at least by departing for pretty much any other South American city with continuing service to MEX (EZE, LIM, whatever) on the first flight the following morning.

A pity GIG doesn't appear to be an option.
