CN call center was also useless, will only rebook for like-to-like routings.

HKG being cancelled for Jun and Jul is key.
"Just say get me to Asia (SIN), i can find my own way into HKG"

For the record, HKG is now ONLY 7 days hotel jail at your expense
I tried early morning EU time but to no avail. It is mostly up to the agent roulette I believe. It is about finding a fine balance between an agent who is competent enough to know what this is about but not competent enough to know what THIS is about :P
I was almost there until the last agent was stopped by the back office. I believe since the russian space closure they have gotten stricter and more detailed about Asia reroutings. Now hope my Nov ones get cancelled again because I have no faith if HKG will ever open up...

has anyone tried to change dates for this ticket recently? tried chat and calling, but agents have said we can either (i) change to -2/+7 days, or (ii) get a refund. they would not be able to change it to 2023 even if we paid a fare difference, because apparently a supervisor (according to the call centre agent) said that the ticket was 3 years old and cannot be changed again.

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Same result here. "Your ticket has been changed 7 times since 2019, we can only give a full refund" and another answer "You already accepted the cancellation/rebooking, we cannot change anything". Obviously that's not in line with the European law and untrue.

On the other hand, it seems HKG announces its opening later this week: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ek-report-says

Not quite “announces its opening” - visitors are still under “medical surveillance” for the first seven days of stay.

Medical surveillance still means no entry to any restaurant or bar. Visitors are supposed to return to hotel and eat room service/Deliveroo/Foodpanda for every meal.

Pre- and post-arrival testing will still be in effect.

Called both HKG and SYD helplines today. Good point is no wait on either phone call to speak to a real person, no crazy phone menu (just press 1 once), and no repeated announcement about "you can do this on your website".

HKG person was willing to split the booking in half, so the other person can re-arrange without me, but wouldn't change the destination without emailing back office.

SYD person (who had a distinctly Finnish accent) called back office who told him no dice on a destination change, but happy to rebook for any other date.

I'll keep trying...

Just tried two agents from the chat box. First said -2/+2 and the other said -2/+7 seems they put in random numbers here.

will try tomorrow again, as somebody mentioned weekdays better.

good luck

Do you still have UN/TK?
Have you got any case law to back this up? Or are you relying only on the primary "Rebook at later date" Article 8 provision?

Tried another call centre and the webchat. Each time it goes to back office. Now the helpdesk has started disconnecting me for asking difficult questions.

But I haven't heard anyone tell me about a +2/+7 rule.

Ok, I found their advice to agents -- which might not be the advice they follow in house, but is probably pretty close. It is pretty adamant about no destination change, and that's the level of pushback I've received at every stage. So I may give up on trying to reroute and reschedule it +1 year again ...

Got around 7 agents. All giving me huge pushbacks. Well, I think that this is the end. Fly it or refund.

Same here.
After I wanted to cancel today, I'm now thinking about flying off this deal. Does anyone know if I can stay at the booked hotel if I test positive during my stay or do I have to go to a quarantine facility? The latter would of course be a no go. Can I actually book any hotel for the first 3 days or only special ones? And do I also have to present a test when departing from Hong Kong on the inbound journey or is the full vaccination sufficient? I've seen conflicting statements about this online
Thx

  • For inbound persons who are tested positive by nucleic acid tests or RATs, their Vaccine Pass will be converted to a Red Code. Their isolation arrangements will be aligned with that for local cases.

Meaning no need to go to isolation facility, as long as you have private spaces (toilet included) for recovery.

Just want to say big Thanks to everyone with advice and guidance: bought ticket STR-CAN, then changed TXL-HKG and actually travelled a few weeks ago LHR-HEL-SIN return on Finnair. New Finnair A350, interesting product. Avios posted after 5 days.

Will start on the 5th of Jan 23 MUC/HEL/BKK. It was STR/CAN as well, but after 5 changes I got MUC/HEL/HKG and after another 3 changes MUC/HEL/BKK.
