CAUTION - TURNAROUND
"One customer did have issues. Wang Guanran, who documents his travels on hktravelblog.com, had his plans to travel to New York on Wednesday cut short when he was prevented from flying by immigration officials in Vietnam... he was detained by Vietnamese immigration officials, who said it was illegal to return to his city of origin while in transit." - Source:SCMP, 2 January 2019

Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)
Basic Visa Options for US Citizens
1. One month, one entry
2. One month, multiple entries
3. Three months, one entry
4. Three months, multiple entries
5. One year, multiple entries
Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

OneWorld rules require you to be travelling on a OneWorld airline to be guested into a OneWorld lounge by someone travelling in F or with OneWorld sapphire or emerald status, so if you’re flying Hong Kong Airlines then you wouldn’t be eligible for guesting into a Cathay Pacific Lounge.
I wish people would not reiterate such wrong information.
Yes, your friend can guest you in (did it before).

Bingo! You are correct. This is what is preventing people from making changes to their bookings without repricing. By zeroing out A, I, D and C, ex DAD, HAN and SGN, any changes to ticketed reservations will have to re-price at F and J fares and after collecting the fare difference submit the ticket to the re-issue process. Don't know if CX website uses ITA's ReShop solution for itinerary changes which does the fare calculation when trying to re-issue but each booking has a TST stored which has all fare information for each individual booking. When you re-price a booking a new TST is created and store in the PNR.

So for most people, I think there are some questions about Vietnam visas. Here is what I believe to be true, but, I am NOT 100% sure.
Once we have facts with links, we can add to the wiki.
Transit Vietnam on one ticket - No Visa Needed
Transit Vietnam on two tickets - No Visa Needed
Overnight Vietnam / Longer stay / Leave the airport secure area - E-Visa needed. Apply ahead of time, pick up visa on arrival. (Can also do a 'normal visa' with 1-3 single or multiple visits.)
I am basing my information on these two sites:
https://www.vietnamonline.com/visa/transit-visa.html
https://vietnamvisa.govt.vn/united-states-citizens/
Feel free to update/correct.
Also note: There seem to be many sites that will massively overcharge you for visas. Be careful!

If you are a US citizen then get an evisa (presuming just one visit). Do not go through any agency. It is faster and easier to get 2 evisas than 1 regular multiple entry.
https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt
Do not use any other website.
You will have to print out the evisa. Payment with credit card may also be an issue. Chase works better than Citi from my experience.

In order for it to make sense for any CX passenger to have access to Flagship First check-in, they would probably have to station an agent in there with CX's system loaded into the computer. And even then, given that agents often work together or need each other, having a lone agent there might not work...if something goes wrong it will create confusion for passengers trying to check in there; if they need assistance, they will have to call over another agent from across the terminal; that single agent can create a lot more than his/her own value in efficiencies and do a lot more to keep things moving overall if stationed with the rest of the agents.
For all of those reasons, I don't see CX ever using Flagship First Check-In at JFK when they have their very own dedicated section at the other end of the hall.

For those of you trying to get EQMs for the AS program, what will you do about the segments on Cathay Dragon?
According to the AS website those flights don't count at all (even though operated by CX as their flight numbers are not in the range they accept).
Also can someone add my flight to the wiki please?
3/29/18 CX 5296 HAN-/HKG/ CX 872 HKG-SFO
Thanks

personally i used Air China's program to collect miles for all my *A flights, so probably i'll put them into Air China as well... but i reckon that may not be applicable to most non-Asian (or most non-Chinese? lol)

Not true at all. You are not using status but the fare class (first).
I wish people would not reiterate such wrong information.
Yes, your friend can guest you in (did it before).

From the OneWorld website:
- First Class passengers may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline

We are talking about someone travelling in F, not "or with OneWorld status" as most people here do not have oneworld status.
Cathay Pacific explicitly states that you get one guest for travelling in F. No asterisk, saying you have to be flying a oneworld airline.

We are talking about Cathay Pacific, as such you should look at their website rather than oneworld rules.

I agree that the Cathay Pacific site does not stipulate that guests must be travelling on a OneWorld airline, however in general I have always found that guests have needed to be travelling on a OneWorld airline to be admitted into a OneWorld lounge regardless of whether I was guesting based on the fact that I am flying in First or due to the fact I hold OneWorld emerald status.
I havent tried to guest anyone into a Cathay Pacific lounge recently so this requirement may not hold true for CX, but it certainly applies to guesting into AA, BA, QR and QF lounges regardless of whether I was guesting based on flying First or my OneWorld emerald status.

My statement is a correct interpretation of the OneWorld guesting rules for people with elite status or for people holding a ticket in First Class.
