CAUTION - TURNAROUND
"One customer did have issues. Wang Guanran, who documents his travels on hktravelblog.com, had his plans to travel to New York on Wednesday cut short when he was prevented from flying by immigration officials in Vietnam... he was detained by Vietnamese immigration officials, who said it was illegal to return to his city of origin while in transit." - Source:SCMP, 2 January 2019

Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)
Basic Visa Options for US Citizens
1. One month, one entry
2. One month, multiple entries
3. Three months, one entry
4. Three months, multiple entries
5. One year, multiple entries
Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

So technically the last person can still fly up to 12/31/2020.
Also don't forget if you bought the C class fare, it was free cancel/free refund
Majuki, I would laugh my brains out if I was the last person to fly this, seeing I booked this fare in CX Pier F shower back on 1/1/2019
Currently booked Aug 6, but my ticket is valid until Mid Nov.
It's looking like this will be pushed back sometime in Sep based on my current projections.

My outbound was June 19, 2019 and inbound is for March 23, 2020. I was going to call and ask to change the flight to sometime in June but if September is an option I would prefer that since I have to fly back to Vietnam around that time.

Hey Francis,
It's been almost 10 years since our DEQM runs SFO-DFW from the old Terminal 3 Admirals Club. I flew in to those gates on United today and was reminiscing about those flights. The terminal has long since been completely redeveloped, so you don't even recognize the way it used to be.
I was only in for one of these fares which I flew last summer. I remember it was 06:30 am New Year's Day when I started getting many messages on my phone. I was in KL having not fully recovered from the previous evening's festivities.

Am I reading this correctly? Does that mean the ticket validity can be extended beyond 1 year after flying the outbound, as long as I fly before September 30, 2020?

Tried to push mine to end of June 2020, called in and was denied due to 1 yr limit based on outbound, which was in March 2019. Apparently, the exceptions does not override the original ticket 1 yr limit...

From the Cathay website:
Rebooking/ rerouting/ no show charges will be waived on conditions that:
- Such requests are made on/before 31 March 2020 and before departure, for travel with Cathay Pacific/ Cathay Dragon confirmed booking arriving to, departing from or transit through Hong Kong on 4 February 2020 – 31 March 2020.
- Revised (NEW) travel date must be on/before 30 September 2020 and subject to flight availability.
In which case, the ticket expiry date will be adjusted accordingly. - The newly rebooked sector must observe and conform to the conditions of the respective fare rule, e.g. blackout dates, flight application, weekend/weekday travel, stopover charges and applicable seasonality by collecting additional/refunding difference (if any) as appropriate.
- Reissuance charges will only be waived due to the expiry of the original ticket
- Rerouting to/from/via Cathay Pacific/ Cathay Dragon online cities
And subject to flight availability and fare/tax difference.

Old T3 Admiral's club, meh.
T2 Club, sure
Definitely don't miss, SFO Fog/Flow Control
I guess alot of us took it as a good New Year day surprise, since I normally would never be awake at that hour
How many get to say they booked a CX fare sale inside the CX's lounge using CX's Wifi
I would push back...

TBH, the English line routed to Philippines is merely competent at the best of times , and a spectacular disaster in its glory.
Never felt those PH agent were empowered or an iota of brain to think outside the boxes, and your problem requires to go outside the box
I came across a situation involving the HKG-IAD reductions before the Wuhan Virus disaster hit.
HKG-IAD booked on 3/9 cancelled, auto-rebooked on 3/8.
Call the English line, ask for 3/10 instead of 3/8, the PH agent had the galls to say you have to accept our proposal or take a refund.
HUCA, tried the cantonese line, 2 1/2 hr hold time, can you invol the ticket to 3/10, yep we can and rebooked in 10 mins.
How to go through the cantonese, or mandarin menu options, I'm sure percysmith knows that answer better than I do

Dantheman 11, island82, apologies if I come as a bit foul mouthed but perhaps try the Cantonese or Mandarin line?

Putonghua is complete 1+1 <> 2. I don't bother with them anymore
Canto is not accessible without Herculean 4-hour waits unless MPO elite. Canto quality's generally gone down, anyway, but I managed to wrangle that Protection for YVR Uncle https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post32101566

Called again today, and same answer, but the agent did take a while to ask her supervisor or someone higher up permission to change my ticket but was denied. In both calls, the agents were Canto speaking ones, and not PH based.

I tried calling the call center again and was denied the change to September. Agent says the adjusting of expiry dates only applies to tickets not yet flown. I reached out to the Cathay twitter team and they said any change has to comply with the T&Cs, so the one year ticket validity stands even with the updated HK travel guidelines.

For now, looks like I'm the last person atm LOL.
