If you google "Hong Kong Airline business class review" and click on a trip report from Boarding Area dated 12/03/18, your answer is the first paragraph. But in short, you will need to visit the counter. Safe journey

yes I saw that. However you can checkin online. So my ? Is directly if I checked in online can I get my boarding pass from the gate as opposed to leaving security and going to the counter. I understand you can't print boarding pass online but you can checkin online

the issue you might face is if HX staff arrives at the gate after check-in cutoff time. or, if they direct you to landside check-in where you arrive there after check-in cutoff time.

if it were me, flying into LAX and connecting to HX (which would be the reason you are already airside), i’d stay airside and try to obtain a boarding pass until T-90. then, abandon that plan and head to landside checkin counter for an in-time check-in.

Am assuming HX closes check-in at T-60.

Just an update I checked in online arrived on American airlines at 9am walked over to tbit through the airside connector went to the gate and they printed out my boarding pass about 30 seconds later.

so to recap you do not need to exit security and go to the checkin desk the gate will do it.

OLCI hasn't been working for me for more than 24 hours. Anyone get it working recently?

I'm flying out tomorrow and the online check in wasn't working for me and I got a cryptic error message. Tried again in an incognito window in chrome and it worked.
Also if you got downgraded to economy, e.g. you are on the SGN flights that don't have J anymore, you will have a new ticket number and you can get that via chat.

Don't forget to make sure that your FF# is in EVERY segment of your trip. I think my third segment didn't get it, so I filed for reconciliation.

I've never seen a ticket before where the number doesn't automatically carry through to each segment, but that's how this works, apparently.

Even then, miles do not credit sometime. Make sure you check your account.

Anybody have any issues with their carry on? My trip out, I checked in online but couldn't get a boarding pass...so got my ticket printed out at the counter the morning of the flight...but they wanted to weigh my carry one (normal 21 inch roller board, plus I had a backpack). Since I was going to be gone for a week, I had packed quite a bit into my carry on and it weighed like 11kgs...said it was over and they wanted to check it. I wanted to shower in HKG, but also didn't want to leave security and then check back in after I got my bag...and I didn't want to have it checked all the way to SGN...I pushed a little bit and they were nice enough to allow me to carry it on. When I got on the plane, it wasn't like there wasn't room...mine was the only bag inside the bin. I know airlines other than US are pretty strict with carry on weights, but surprised they even cared since I was business. On the way back, when I checked in, no issues. Asked if I was checking a bag and I said no, no question about weighing.

Also, much prefer the old A350 as opposed to new...much more room on the lay flat seat it seems. And bring your own entertainment...IFE is fine, but limited in the amount of movies you have to watch...if you haven't watched any for a long time, you might be fine.

Definitely enjoyed my flights and looking forward to my next one in a little over a month.

No baggage issues for me in any of my segments. I always carry-on, and my wife's carry-on was likely over 11 kg.

My IFE on the way home basically didn't work. This wasn't too bad, however, because the two seats in front of me wouldn't recline, so those passengers got off the plane. I used one of those seats to watch IFE, and my seat to sleep. I would have complained more, but the crew was great about it, and I didn't really feel like I deserved a refund or anything given the fare I paid to begin with.

New. Head FA was really mystified and annoyed that three biz seats had problems on a plane that was just a few months old.

Yes the new configuration has broken seats however I checked them and some worked. Flew the old config Hong Kong to Shanghai and it looked pretty worn out already.

Has anyone tried to fly standby on an earlier flight so you can have a stopover in Hong Kong on the way back? I think I will call and attempt this.

I flew last week my last two legs too, and suffered a power outage of my seat. suddenly out of the blue the seat lost power, everything except the IFE lost power. no seat movement, no seat lights, and no charging. took FA 20 min to fix the issue, really the new seats have design problems.
