Yes the new configuration has broken seats however I checked them and some worked. Flew the old config Hong Kong to Shanghai and it looked pretty worn out already.
Has anyone tried to fly standby on an earlier flight so you can have a stopover in Hong Kong on the way back? I think I will call and attempt this.

I took my flights back in October, accumulated ~33,000 pts on FWC. After much planning and consternation, I was able to use my points on round trip SJC-PDX award travel on AS. Economy outbound, first on return. Maybe not the optimal use of the points, but 1) I had to go there anyway, and 2) I'm just happy to be able to get a free flight in addition to the amazing J fare on the original trip.
To use FWC points on AS, you either need to call FFP in China (86-898) 950717 or email FPP [email protected]. The representatives at the US office (312 number) were unable to book award travel. I emailed FFP with the exact itinerary I wanted. They responded with a request for more identifying information and then ended up calling me a couple days later. The representative's English was a little rough, but definitely better than my Mandarin. Overall, while the process was not as quick as I am used to, it went smoothly.

Did you check for award availability first? What's the fare class on the tickets that were issued?
Edit: And welcome to FT! Thanks for the informative post.

Interesting. I didn't realize this would be that complicated, but I sure couldn't find a way to do it online. Too bad the Chicago reps can't handle it.

I did not check for award availability first. My dates were fixed, so I just took a shot at it. Fare classes are W and A.

If the ticket is booked through Expedia, is it possible to cancel the ticket for with a penalty fee? My ticket says refundable with $250 fee (Tickets are refundable with a penalty fee of $250.00.), but when I clicked on details it says:
"Please note that the most restrictive set of rules below applies to your entire itinerary. We have not received information regarding the rules or restrictions for this flight. When you purchase your ticket, you agree to the following rules and restrictions. Please assume that the fare is non-refundable and any change or cancellation will result in full forfeiture of the value of the ticket with no refund or credit available."

Flew both new config and old config. I would say hands down the window seat (closet to window) is far and away the best business class seat out there if you value space ( have not flown new qatar q suites) esp is someone with broad shoulders. More room than any other seat for both lounging and sleeping.
just my 2 cents.

Completed my trip about ten days ago now. Miles look right in my account. But my email came today from Fortune Wings, and it clearly was processed before my return flights. Double-checked the website - all still good.
So if you get an email with what looks like the wrong number of miles in your account, it's just old info from about two weeks ago.

For those of you that had the 03:20 am flight out of BKK to HKG. Did you stay an extra night in a hotel or just hang around town? I will be coming from Kanchanaburi the evening before the flight and I'm trying to figure out what would be best for the family since we will have our 8 year old. I see there are many lounges available (Miracle transit hotel is $100+, and want to avoid if possible) was there one in particular that we can catch a nap in? I have PP and Amex plat. Lastly, how early were you able to check in at BKK? TIA
