Here's my 2 cent tip. I'm sure more sophisticated FT'ers have a better way, but I have Mileage Run Deals as my FT homepage. From there, I can see all the great recent threads, almost always including the Economy thread. Also, near the top of the Mileage Run Deals page, there is a link to Mileage Run Discussion, the home of this thread.

I'm having trick-it withdrawal too. I haven't had need to use to yet, but I sure enjoyed playing with the system. I was just gutted I could never be the one to reveal a new deal to the masses! I guess I just ain't that clever...
I'm not keen on going over to SD/FW - the trick-it thread just seemed to "fit" FT! I don't have much time right now, busy with work, otherwise I would offer to set up a forum where tricks can be shared and discussed, I'm ok with the mysql and the like.
If there is to be some restricted forum for our sharing of ideas, how can one decide who's in and who isn't? How about the initial list being anyone who posted in the original thread? At least that includes anyone who was interested in tricking it.

While I understand your rationale, there are some FTers who never posted there simply because they were still trying to figure things out for themselves in order to be an educated participant when the time came to dive in. Those individuals shouldn't be penalized for not begging for help.

Or if we are newer to the site and want to learn/try and learn about the system as well. I've been getting more into traveling deals now that I am finally old enough to enjoy traveling and seeing the world...

I concur...I mean we don't have to ask for the step by step but subtle hints work for me

This is truly funny. I've been around here a long time. Even popped into the closed thread occasionally (only to be left scratching my head). But now that it's closed: I'm determined to sit down and read the WHOLE friggin thing until I understand it. I may not use it, but I like puzzles and would probably come up with a few deals I would share. (in code of course)

Naturally I didn't spend a lot more time on booking deals for trips I probably couldn't take just to prove I could save money.I think it comes down to learning as much as you can about the structure of fare pricing including but not limited to:
- the way the so-called surcharges are applied to the ticket price
- the airline and partner hub/ semi-hub cities as well as list of cities served
- the effect of open jaws and tag-on cities on fare pricing
- airlines that serve a particular city
- fare class availability
- cancellation policies (some of the bookings I looked at wouldn't price out to the lower fare until after you paid for the ticket - that could be a problem with AA which normally doesn't have a grace period for cancellations as far as I know)
What I do know is that you have to find the right combinations that work and that there are definite patterns involved - I don't understand the reasons these patterns work very well, but apparently neither do the programmers (or at least certain airlines have determined it is more cost effective in some markets to have this sort of weird pricing in place even with a modest number of super discount bookings being allowed to the savy and lucky consumers). Eventually I'm afraid someone is going to work hard to publicize every single detail of every such deal until this all goes away - hopefully that day is far off, but I'm afraid it will happen at some point because I've seen the same pattern repeated for so many other great deals over the last few years.
I agree that I would like to know why when threads are closed and deleted - if it's for a reason that is not obvious to most of us.

Most people forget that its newbies and first time posters who post MANY of the good deals we get on MR. If we let FT become some insiders club where you need to know codes to get in on deals FT will eventually atrophy. FT is supposed to exist to make flying and mileage programs EASIER for the general public, not to be the warez community...
