I was trying to put a stopover in hnl on the return but the price goes up $400 (even though a stopover is only suppposed to be $100). I was using multicity for the routing - is there a better way?

It's not a trick fare so try calling UA... sometimes their system does weird things with the fare classes when you price a stopover online.

This is a good deal for a one-stop (NRT) trip. I have done ORD-HNL-GUM-MNL in economy and that trip is really unpleasant. Too many stops, no in-seat TV and not enough sleeping time

For UA Mileage plus, it's 100% earned on NH flights in K class for transpacific, and also ongoing international connections, so it is my understanding that you'll get 100% miles and bonuses on the NH flight from NRT to MNL if you fly SEA-NRT also on NH.

NH is much better than UA in economy, service is great and the "view" while getting your food or drink is much better too. One other possible benefit to booking ANA is if UA cans the SEA-NRT routing. If they do that, they'd unlikely move you to the NH nonstop. They'd route you through SFO.

I see $766 RT without tricks for Nov SEA-NRT-MNL all on NH. LAX departures slightly higher ($856 on NH, $754 on AA/JQ). Wish I could find something like this ex-ORD.

Just booked SEA-SFO-HNL-GUM-MNL-GUM-HNL-LAX-SEA Sept 6-9 for $739 4.24 cpm. Not so bad. maybe cpm is not as good as some transcon trips... but trip like this, you get ~18000 miles in one weekend and get to see another country, rather than flying 4 rt coast to coast.
Some connection is tight and maybe UA would call me and ask to change some flights and I could even go crazier routing or a stop over in GUM or HNL which happened to me before
Thanks OP

Also, as noted above: If you are lucky, the SEA to NRT leg on ANA will use the 787 (currently scheduled for sometime OCT '12 - MAR '13). Initially, this route will use 777-300ER.

Cant find anything loaded in Amadeus showing the 787 schedule though. All flights between these dates are 777

I booked EWR-SFO-MNL-GUM-HNL-EWR (stop in HNL & GUM on the way over) for $1049. This was 20,335 miles and will clinch me 1K. I opted to overnight in SFO since the connection was 38mins. Wasn't afraid for me but for my luggage. Taking advantage to see a friend for dinner in SFO. With fares the way they are and slim opportunities from EWR, this was a good find. Thanks for posting.

Where did you find this? Did you do a multicity search at UA?

Huh - what kind of luggage are you bringing on an island hopper mileage run?
