I generally stay at either the Marriott or the Intercontinental on the Magnificent Mile. They are both centrally located and good hotels, the IC is obviously nicer but the Marriott is good enough, especially if you have status and can get an upgrade.

Be sure to check out Public. Reasonable Schrager hotel near Gold Coast. Before moving here we'd stayed all over downtown and the Mile. Have found this place to be a great combination of value/location/service.

Close to everything etc etc.

My niece & Sis-in-law just stayed at Club Quarters www.clubquarters.com/loc_chicago.php

Thought it was clean, comfortable, decent price and close to where they needed to be.

The Radisson has an amazing rooftop deck with a view of Millennium Park. Most Fridays and Saturdays the Grant Park Orchestra plays in the evenings (no fee) and the entire lawn fills with people picnicking (lots of wine, lots of cheese). It's my favorite Chicago summer activity.

Digging up an old thread - does anyone have a preference between the Peninsula, 4S, or the Waldorf? My coworker raves about the Peninsula (and the one in Tokyo is probably the best hotel I've stayed at), but having only really been in the city once (and stayed at a DoubleTree), I was wondering what other people thought. Will be in town for 2 nights in late September and looking for luxury hotel that is convenient.

For future reference, Flyer Talk soft rule asks that threads older than two years not be pulled forward (risk of obsolete info).

Anyway, I find the W=A and the FS a bit too far north on the Magnificent Mile. Our CEO and his wife were at the FS recently and they were not impressed.

Pen has excellent location, I think the only downside was the loss of their executive chef but that was a while back.

I would urge you to also look at the Langham, in the River North area. Closer to cultural attractions and housed in the repurposed IBM Building, designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe.

Thanks - did not know about that unwritten rule...will keep in mind going forward.

Since all of the above have corporate rates that make them much more affordable, I will see if there is also one at the Langham when I am in the office tomorrow

The Penn is a very good choice. The Langham is excellent. I enjoy my stays at the WA, although it is often not perceived to be as luxury as the Penn and Langham. It all depends upon where you want to be, the Langham is just across the river from the Loop, the WA at the North end of the Mag Mile but close to a lot of the high end shopping, and the Penn is between the two.
