Looking for a flight simulator in D.C. area
My dad, a longtime airline/flight geek, is turning 70 this fall. He's THAT guy who has to stop in the cockpit on every flight to say something to the flight crew, or ask a question.
I thought it would be cool to get him a gift certificate to fly in a flight simulator.
Google isn't giving me much help in the DC area. Anyone aware of any flight simulators open to the public?
Thanks.

I have read about a jet fighter flying experience at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington Mall, however, you could try a company which specialises in Gift Vouches for Fun Day Experiences, like a Day at a Spa or driving a sports car around a race circuit, you know that type of thing. In the UK we have many like this which offer a 737 Simulator experience.

Try contact HorizonFlightCenter dot com - they offer basic Cesna 172 training including FS, it's serious and I don't see anything close to what you are looking for - they are based at the Chesapeake Regional Airport (KCPK) down in VA.
Call or email them and ask for suggestions - perhaps they can refer you to another facility that offers it. Post 9/11 and with all that homeland security & background checks and clearences, not so simple even for a simulator ride with a certificate ... Good luck.

Somewhat near DC
Saw your old post about flight simulators in the DC area. Not sure if you're still interested but about an hour or so away is the Pautuxet River Naval Air Museum in St Mary's County. Visited there this past summer and they had 4 flight simulators where you sat in "actual" cockpits and controlled what you saw on a large flat screen on the wall in front of the cockpit. No motion but still pretty cool. Here's a link.

On the other hand, if you could get your dad to Mall of America in Minneapolis, I have a friend who operates these:

Hey, мay no longer be relevant, but nonetheless. Heard that they plan to open FFS in Westfield Montgomery. From their website:
Level 3
Dream Aero
Opening Summer 2019
Dream Aero is a flight simulator designed as a real plane cockpit. It is analogous to simulators used for training real pilots. The cockpit is secured on a moving platform that fully replicates physical flight dynamics such as during building up speed and take off, you’ll feel every runway bump as if you were in a real plane. Stay tuned for more details.Level 3
