Trumbull FS Marriott - Any recent experience?

Search on "Trumbull" results in only one thread regarding condition of this property (which apparently was being renovated at the time)..

The problem is that it dates back to 2001.

Anyone stayed there lately who'd share their experience (good or bad)?

Many thanks.

Haven't stayed there in years but I do a lot of programs there. It seems fine.

There aren't really any other alternatives in that area. The nearby Courtyard in Shelton is well below average from my impression having done programs there. Your only other alternative would be the Hilton Garden Inn in Shelton.

Because there the only good game in town, they price accordingly which seems to be well above market.

I stayed there in April. Nice place. They upgraded me to a CL room, and the CL had enough food that it was actually usuable for meals (e.g. breakfast burritos & sausage links for breakfast, sandwiches at dinner). The only downside was the gym only had a couple of treadmills & ellipticals. I'd definitely stay there again if I need to be in that area.

Hello,

I satyed there for approx 50 nights from Jan, 2005 until June, 2006.

The place is the best in the area. The workout area could be a little better, but I was usually there alone.

The concierge lounge has great food for breakfast and after work snacks. The restaurant is also very good.

Another nice choice for Dinner is the Metro in a near by shopping plaza (they also participate in IDINE!!!)

I have stayed at other hotels in the area and the Hilton Garden Inn is nice, but you dont get the full service hotel experience.

Enjoy Shelton.

Thanks everyone...

Dearth of information on this property so I really appreciate it.

All I had to go on was the property's webpages on marriott.com and tripadvisor which didn't tell me what I wanted to know.

I did note both indoor and outdoor pools so I'll be able to do my laps and the CL sounds like one of the better ones and it sounds like I'll get the plat "upgrade."

Again, I'm most appreciative for the responses.

I dito everyone above. I have had 5 stays March-April this year and I like it. The c-lounge is great as well as the rooms. As a platinum I always got upgraded to their 5th (CL) floor, which one have to insert the key in the elevator to get to.

Platinum Disregard and BonusBucks Scam at Trumbull Marriott

Very unpleasant experience at this property on Jun 2...

Booked a 1-night BonusBucks stay arriving on Fri night (Jun 1). Checked-in after 3am (Jun 2) and requested $100 bonusbucks cert. Night manager refused stating that the reservation must have been reserved and paid with a VISA (in my case it was reserved with AMEX and paid with VISA) and there was a minimum 2-night weekend stay required. Night manager did not offer Platinum amenity selection. Was told that breakfast is not available for Platinums (CL closed on weekends). No upgrade (i.e. no mouth wash in the room; after all, isn't that all the difference at Marriott properties located in-the-middle-of-nowhere?>)

Upon check-out, spoke to front-desk agent. Asked again for Platinum amenity. Agent was surprised I was not provided at check-in. Requested 500 miles (no time to wait for anything else). Same story regarding $100 bonusbucks, i.e. they deemed my stay as non-eligible for BonusBucks.

When I booked the 1-night Fri-arrival stay, it clearly stated this was a BonusBucks rate ($119/night).

The rough-and-fine print on the Marriot web site regarding the BonusBucks promotion states (no requirement for 2-night stay!! breakfast included!!)

Accepting FT advice for follow-up action.

Why did you chose 500 miles when you could have $100 cash in your hand instead?

Did you book the Stay for Breakfast? And if you did, then you should have free breakfast, right?

The 500 miles is the standard Platinum Amenity offer, i.e. not in lieu of the $100 Bonus Bucks cert.

I did (that's what the room rate additional information shows), but they didn't honor it. The night manager insisted the reservation must have been guaranteed with a VISA in addition to paying with a VISA, and that there was a minimum two-night stay requirement, therefore no Bonus Bucks, no breakfast.

A piece of advice: anyone who opts for the Bonus Bucks Stay for Breakfast offer should bring a print-out of the room rate description and the offer details!

Awaiting answer to an online complaint I filed with Marriott regarding this incident.

I think he's asking why you didn't take the $100 you can get when you're not offered the plat amenity gift. That $100 is completely separate from any Bonus Buck offer.

Regarding Trumbull Marriott - I've stayed there about a year ago & it's an old hotel. I think you're MUCH better off staying at the CY in Shelton, CT (it's about the same price as the full-service Marriott, but a newer & better hotel, IMHO). www.marriott.com/bdrcy

Thanks again for the input, everybody.

More positive than negative opinions here but I am thinking about it.

Normally I do lean toward FS properties.

Between choosing between 500 pts ($100 if not offered) or a bottle of water and a cookie , for the same Money I'd go with the Marriott over the CY. If I wasnt a Plat then maybe the CY

As noted above, I've not stayed at the Shelton Courtyard but have presented several programs there over the years. Its a converted Ramada and looks it. The meeting rooms are well below standard and the staff is not particularly helpful. I can't imagine this approach doesn't flow over into the hotel guest arena.
