Also massive confusion at the front desk as they try to remember the levels and decipher who gets what, interpret it the way they want and generally bicker with the guests when challenged. Its as if none of these decision makers ever spent an hour observing a busy front desk check in event.
I have yet to see anything that indicates there will be an established order of precedence for upgrades from platinum premier ambassador to platinum premier to platinum. As far as I can tell, all three categories are treated the same for upgrades. Maybe the terms and conditions codify the precedence, but the terms and conditions haven't been released as of yet.

We all know that many front desk clerks and duty managers already struggle to grasp current levels of elite status. I can't imagine it will be better with the new, unified program having effectively three levels of platinum.

Just got an unsolicited email from my ambassador that I'll keep through the end of 2018 and the August "three brands one program" kickoff won't impact my ambassador status. After that, I'll be on the 20k spend.

I received this e-mail response back from Marriott about 5 minutes ago. I have over 1000 nights combined and well over 2 million points combined. Most of my nights and points are with SPG. Crazy we are all receiving different information. i placed this on starwood forum as well

Dear Mr. xxx:

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards Guest Services.

In order to be grandfathered into the Lifetime Platinum Premier status you will need to earn the Platinum Lifetime Elite status with Marriott Rewards. You will have until December 31, 2018 to earn this status with Marriott Rewards. You currently have xxx nights and earned xxx points with Marriott Rewards. The nights and points that you have already earned with SPG will not be eligible towards the requirements. This will be the only opportunity you will have to receive the Lifetime Platinum Premier status.

You can find answers to other questions you have about the new Loyalty program at members.marriott.com.

You are currently a Platinum Elite member. Thank you for your valued loyalty and continued patronage.

If we can be of further assistance, please reply to this email.

Thank you for choosing Marriott.

Sincerely,

Jana J.

Forgot to mention it yesterday, got sidetracked, but I saw a sponsored item in my Instagram feed regarding the new Chase Marriott Premier card - $0 AF first year and 75,000-point bonus. Strange since TPG mentioned that it was 100,000 points.

The new card (Premier Plus) isn't going to be available until May 3. That sounds like the current card (Premier).

I have to agree here. I think it has more to do with when you check in, how many nights you are staying and what happens to be available for those nights!

Currently, the wording of upgrade benefit for all 3 levels are the same. That can be interpreted as all three levels should be treated the same. Obviously hotel have their own priority as well

If there are any difference in treatments, Marriott might use different wording for the said tier benefit
eg
plt 50 : upgrade to the next best cat incl suite
plt75 : preferential upgrade to ........
plt 100 : priority upgrade to blah blah blah

with these plt 50 might be unhappy but on the other hand might encourage people to get the next tier if they are within mattress running distance to the next tier

My bad... you're right. Didn't actually realize until now that the current card had "Premier" in its name.

The naming convention for the new Marriott credit cards is just as stupid as the naming convention for the new, unified program. So someone can be a platinum premier while someone else could be a platinum with a premier (or is it premier plus?) credit card. You know darn well folks will insist to the front desk that they are platinum premier when they aren't. What a bloody mess.

I agree. This way of naming credit cards is an invitation for misunderstandings and confusion.

Have Chase and Marriott learned nothing form the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard, which has nothing to do with American Airlines' AAdvantage Platinum level or any other status level?

Maybe, once the new loyalty program has a name in 2019, Chase and Marriott can take another look at the name of the credit card.

so my gold status is now useless starting August? No more lounge or breakfast? Sad Face.

I was about to book hotel stays for Singapore, Bangkok, Beijing, Vietnam all with Marriott.

Now have to change some hotel ideas around... Fairmont with Beijing as I got status, Hilton in Bangkok as I have gold and get free breakfast BUT Singapore and Vietnam Marriott properties look amazing so staying with them.

If you earned Gold status via actual stays (the hard way), you'll be mapped to Platinum in August. Gold status through other ways is TBD.

If your current Gold Elite status was earned in the Rewards program, there is 100% certainty that you will Platinum Elite in August -- with a collection on benefits similar to the current Rewards Gold and SPG Platinum.

If your current Gold Elite status was earned in the SPG program and you linked accounts giving you matched status, it now also appears that you will be Platinum Elite in August, despite conflicting explanations this week. But this has not been unambiguously documented on the official website.

I'm not sure about this. Is "Gold Elite status earned in the Rewards program" inclusive of status challenge status, complementary status and status earned through Ritz? Other posters have adamantly pointed out Flueck stated in the TPG video that the determining factor of old Gold mapping to new Platinum is 50 nights. Those with old Gold status via status match maps to new Gold because they failed to meet the requirement of 50 nights. So, only those with Gold with 50 nights are assured of being mapped to Platinum. All other Golds are TBD.

ETA: per MR twitter, SPG Gold maps to new Gold. See here in the complementary thread in SPG forum. And another similar response below:
