Can you even boil down what I said to one or two simple sentences? Go ahead, try, I bet you'll get it wrong.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and post in one to two simple sentences? Then there would less opportunity for you to be misunderstood!

As for me, I got what I wanted on this promo so I am happy. I want points, I am not a fan of the free stay at 1-4 category hotels.

There are times which are for short replies, and time which are for longer replies. In this instance, I was writing for the "superior legal mind" of BKKLEE, who as an attorney should be accustomed to reading detailed legal arguments.

As for you, I agree with you about the promo, I generally prefer the points, and not the free stay certs. I think Marriott would be best served by allowing Golds and Plats to choose their own Mega bonus promo, as some others here do too. However, Marriott did not ask us, unfortunately.

I would hope so, otherwise how would they be able to credit your account with the substituted bonus?????

But they keep the record in the system permanently, so if you have a history of switching, at some point they may say no.

Pretty unlikely.

That's why the CSR roulette exist. If accounts were notated you would see record here of more consistent 'no's' when making repeatedly phone calls.

I think the phone calls are simply too short and the accounts are not notated; some just follow a simple protocol with the answer of no while others have had few requests and therefore make the change. (I personally think it's a tool that the CSR is allowed to used based upon personal review). There's way too much inconstinency to be anything else.

However, I do think if your phone call is too long or argumentative, you account may be notated. Therefore, it's best not to argue the point (imho).

I agree they may say no since a def. account notation has to be made.

However, they may also see that this person is always offered the max points promo and always switches to certs (so the obvious pattern would be nice if MR followed it, but they do not in many cases).

So, the notation could prove positive or negative depending on the specific CSR and their thoughts at the specific time of you call (unless MR truly puts a corporate 'no change' policy into place across the board).

I also think that not all calls end up as notes on accounts. However, I would say that it is nearly a sure thing that long, and ESPECIALLY argumentative calls will end up with account notes. If the call is unmemorable, then the chance of notes on an account is much less, but if the call is memorable, the chance of notes on an account is much more. Of course, this is mostly my opinion, and YMMV, but it has been my personal experience with MR in the past, which is what informs my opinion.

The only reason why MR CS roulette exists is because of inconsistent notes on accounts. I also have experience with other companies I have tried it with, and as soon as I hear something such as, "I see you called earlier, and got a no answer, so what makes you think that you will have a different result from this call?" I can't think of a single time I have heard this from MR, or for that matter, from any travel company I deal with regularly, such as Delta or Avis.

No email and no promo for my account yet. Is it normal?

VickiSoCal Dec 28, 2012 5:27 pm

There was no promo on my husband's account, I used the contact us form to let them know and it was resolved in 24 hours. You can also call. Everyone should get a Spring Megabonus offer.

DoctorK Dec 28, 2012 5:41 pm

I called and spoke to a CSR who agreed to switch me from points to the 3 Cat 4 certs but she will be tracking it manually and they will only appear in my account at the end of the promo period.

I guess that the change is that they used to be able to change the promo in the computer, and now they can't, so they say they will track it manually. Has everyone who has been promised manual tracking gotten what they've been promised in previous promos?

BKKLEE Dec 28, 2012 5:53 pm

this is FT......if a member doesn't get what they've been promised it will be posted here and even if they do get what they've been promised they'll still complain about it here.........

you can call and have the cert added after the 2nd stay post each time, except for the last cert (which is usually added at the end of the promo) or,

you can wait and have them all posted at the end of the promo.

however, this promo, I was going to wait, when I finally decided to call and have them added. loh and behold the CSR said no note on my account existed (even though I had called and a gentleman told me he would manually track).

it was honored without issue.

however, note to self: I will likely always have the 1st cert added after the 2nd stay post just to make sure the note exist.

note: the certs are good for 1 year from the time they are posted. so, some may want to wait until end of promo to get more time out of their cert.

Not all companies have a list of two letter codes, or four letter codes, or three number codes, or 14 character codes, or whatever, do they? If they did, and if all companies used up to date computer systems, which they do not, and if employees always followed their training and rule books, which they do not, then there would be a record of every single call ever made, to every single company on the planet, and there would be a definitive code for everything which was discussed on every single call, and no consumer/customer would ever hear "we have no record of you calling yesterday or last week sir, so since there is no record of your conversation with representative joe blow, who does not exist, then we will not be able to honor what you say you have been promised."

What shoreline said is very interesting vis-à-vis what I said in my earlier comment above. I can't tell you how many times I have heard some variation of "....we have no record of you calling about this before/yesterday/last week sir"
