it might make informed travelers like you and me happier. It may not however the goal of the program which is to drive sales over Marriott's client base. Most don't know there are multiple options and try to achieve the goal that Marriott has put out for them. The goal of all of these promos is incremental sales. If last year you made the 15+5 promo, a nice push goal (from Marriott's perspective) is 25 over the same period.

Actually ljk, you just suggested a terrific idea! It would be oh so much easier if MR allowed us, their proven loyal elite members, to check a box on our Mega bonus registration, indicating that we want, something like this:
Choose any ONE option from below. Once you have made your choice below, and have completed your registration for Mega bonus, changes will not be possible. Please enjoy Spring 2013 Mega bonus, and good luck! 1 - Stay two nights, receive one category 1-4 certificate, receive up to three certificates. 2 - Stay two nights (or three nights), receive one category 1-5 certificate, receive up to two certificates. 3 - Stay 20 nights, receive 25,000 points, stay 5 additional nights, receive 15,000 additional points, for 40,000 points total. 4 - Stay 25 nights, receive 35,000 points, stay 5 additional nights, receive 15,000 additional points, for 50,000 points total. Wouldn't offering Mega bonus in this way make a lot more people happy, and hold the "I want to switch" calls to MR to a minimum? |

I called to get mine switched and I am Platinum. I didn't get a "no" but not quite a yes either. She said they really don't want them to switch anything--what you get it what you get. I really prefer the stay 2 get 1 promo--It works best for me. I told her that I am platinum because I am a meeting planner and not because I stay 20 nights a quarter. She could see that reflected in my points. She told me she wouldn't switch me right now, but to call back a few weeks before the promo ended and if I didn't earn what I had been enrolled in, then she would switch me over. I get that when they switch, they have to manually adjust it, but really--can we just pick from the beginning what will work best for our travel patterns! The reward is suppose to be obtainable, and I do stay a few more nights to get the free night most of the time. So they are getting more of my business.

I called and at first they didnt want to switch it, but then she talked with a supervisor and said she would make notations in the account that at the end of the promotion they would offer the free nights instead of the points. But, they could only put a note in the account instead of switching it right away. Hope they will honor it down the road! But, I do appreciate the switch.

I called the 1-888-Marriott number that Marriott Concierge posted in this thread, and I got a recording that said the promotion was not open for enrollment until Jan 3rd.
That is some outstanding IT work! Update: called MR and was added to the 20nts/35K and 25nts/50K promo |
got the: 35,000 points after 20 paid nights + 15,000 points after 25 paid nights—up to 50,000 bonus points offer. Will probably call to have them switch me to another one. Won't be staying 20+ nights during that timeframe.

So this most recent megabonus, I called this past August and they switched it to the 2 cat 1-5 certificates...i was originally signed up for the 40k pt bonus after 20 stays. They said it wouldn't change on my online profile, but they would track it on their end. I called back November to check on the status, and they said the agent, back in August, told me incorrect information. Their rewards department cannot add 1-5 certificates onto my account...they can however add pts of course. This is what I was told over the phone.... So therefore he went to speak to a supervisor, and instead agreed to give me 50k points after my 4th stay...this was his nice gesture for the mistake the agent made in August (which is equivalent to 2 cat 1-5 certificates) I just received the 50k points...not too bad Some may doubt what I am saying, so if you want further proof, then PM me and ill send you a screenshot of the "goodwill adjustment" on my account |
All of this mishegoss just adds to my strong feeling (from experience) that it all just comes down to either who you get on the phone, or how good we are, after the fact, at explaining that some terrible agent promised something which that agent should not have promised, and that whichever manager is involved now, must offer some sort of compensation for what the terrible agent should not have promised in the first place.

-He insisted on speaking to his supervisor and made sure that once he returned to the phone, he would have a resolution that would be beneficial to my favor. -he gave me his extension to follow up with him in the future etc etc It was quite a nice experience, and the best ive had dealing with the agents. I literally didn't make a big deal about the situation at all, and they went out of their way without me asking or "insisting" on any type of compensation. So i guess my advice is to expect nothing/act nonchalant calm and cool, therefore you will stand out in a positive light amongst some rewards members who may get overly angry on the phone lol :D |

With regard to my situation, I simply called to check on the status of the promotion, and the new agent caught the error...explained exactly what that error was...he was very apologetic for the mistake that the previous agent had made.

One wonders if it wouldn't be easier for Marriott to just give everyone a choice to be made at registration with no later changes allowed, as SPG has done for some of their promos. OTOH, maybe it's just people from FT who call to whine and beg to be switched to a different promo. Maybe most others aren't even aware that different promos have been granted to different people.

perhaps that's because when the current/on-going bonus was announced by MC it was stated as no changes allowed (however others reported various successes in changing) but this time no such cavaet and as you read through the posts you'll find significant successes (being in Thailand, I changed mine via e-mail) especially for G/Ps..........

Which is the better option, call or email? I have changed my program the last couple of times from bonus points to free stays, via email. However, the last time the answer was no changes allowed.
