It is starting to look like Cat 5 is limited to out of US addresses? Anyone get Cat 5's whose address with Marriott is in the US? |
and, as I recall, Sharon previously cited an Marriott Insider posting by Michelle that basically said plats, and perhaps golds too, could change..............haven't seen any update on this issue............

Ok thanks...I honestly did not catch that statement. Therefore, one would assume that switching would be allowed for the spring '13 promotion. i agree, inconsistency at its finest.

Very true. Which one did you receive? Do you plan to keep it or "attempt" a switch?

I received the stay 6 get 3 however I sent an email requesting a switch. I got this as a reply:
"Our records show that your account is enrolled in the 2013 Spring MegaBonus Promotion. The earning dates begin February 2, 2013 and ends April 30, 2013. You have been selected to receive an electronic free night certificate, valid at hotel categories one through four, after every two paid stays. You can repeat this up to a total of six paid stays to receive a maximum of three free night certificates. However, as you are a valued Platinum Elite member, I would be happy to extend you the courtesy of changing this bonus offer to receive a bonus of 25,000 Marriott Rewards points when you stay a total of 15 paid nights. You can receive an additional bonus of 15,000 Marriott Rewards points, up to a maximum bonus of 40,000 points, when you stay a total of 20 paid nights." I am interested in the points since I am working towards LT Plat status. |
Stays booked before registering for MegaBonus
Hello everyone,
Sorry for this newbie question. I am new to Marriott Rewards (I was lured in by the Chase visa sign-up offer) and this is my first megabonus. I was selected for the make 2 stays get a cat 1-4 certificate. (up to 3) I already made a pre-paid booking about a month ago that will occur during the megabonus period. Will it count towards one of my 2 stays even though I booked it and pre-paid it before I registered for the promo? I can't find anything in the T&C that would prohibit it, but just wanted to make sure so I am not disappointed. Thanks!!!! |

As mentioned in my T&C post above, there is no CAT 5 Cert promo until the US links, only under UK links. So, I think this CAT 5 Cert is only for UK members.... well... i didn't check all lang.. but atleast it seems not for US members

Just to be clear: I am in Canada. When I go on marriott.com as per usual, I can see that I'm registered for the Megabonus, but no details; only if I switch to marriott.co.uk do I see the details of the offer (2 Cat.5 certs). I have no idea if the fact I have a non-US address made the difference in the offer.
As long as your stay occurs during the promo period, you will receive the credit. The fact that it was reserved before does not affect eligibility, nor does pre-payment. |

Thank you Twickenham. I suspected so but just wanted to make sure. I am also in Canada, wish I got the offer for the Cat 5 certificates. Maybe they are holding those out for higher elites. There are not much I can do with Cat 4 certificates in the Vancouver area!

So this most recent mgabonus, I called this past August and they switched it to the 2 cat 1-5 certificates...i was originally signed up for the 40k pt bonus after 20 stays.
They said it wouldnt change on my online profile, but they would track it on their end. I called back November to check on the status, and they said the agent, back in August, told me incorrect information. Their rewards department cannot add 1-5 certificates onto my account...they can however add pts of course. This is what I was told over the phone.... So therefore he went to speak to a supervisor, and instead agreed to give me 50k points after my 4th stay...this was his nice gesture for the mistake the agent made in August (which is equivalent to 2 cat 1-5 certificates) I just received the 50k points...not too bad  Some may doubt what I am saying, so if you want further proof, then PM me and ill send you a screenshot of the "goodwill adjustment" on my account ;)

Just called and the CSR told me that this time around, they have gotten more strict on the promotions...she said that they are not switching members to a different promotion.
The one you got picked for will be the only promotion you can participate in... Has anyone else tried? lol

I got the 15+5 nights for 40K points, but just called and switched to the 3 x Cat 1-4 offer. Like others have said - I like the 3 free nights. Depends on where you use them - but there are some Cat 4 Courtyards at $200+ per night at peak times.
I could not get the 2 x Cat 1-5.

I am interested in the points since I am working towards LT Plat status. Besides, when you get certs, no points, and then they hit you three times, 1) then when you use the certs, you do not get room night credit or points for those stays, which are 2) not terribly flexible or the best of places, niceness wise, and 3) probably not a place you would choose if you wanted to be most effective in getting best value for the points you earned. Kind of hard to compare a CAT 4 property (which is 20K per night) such as a FI in Queens or a CY outside of MGM, with a CAT 5 resort, such as CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort (which is just 25K per night, only 5K more). |

Canada. Both wife and I get cat 1-4 offers. I prefer them anyways. cat 4's are 20,000 pts, so i take it as getting 10,000 pts per night, if i make my stays just 1 night each.
