Lightning fast status match from Marriott!

Just wanted to say a big "thank you" to the folks at Marriott and share my pleasant experience. I have been a rather unhappy HH Diamond and am actively looking to switch primary hotel chains. I asked both Starwood and Marriott for matching Platinum/Diamond status and both responded rather quickly with procedures for such.

I sent all of the requisite information to MR yesterday -- late afternoon -- and found today on their web site that my account had been upgraded to Platinum. Score one for Marriott -- I was amazed at how fast they got this done!

I will be staying, as a Plat, for the first time this weekend at the Courtyard GRR and am looking forward to the experience.

The kick to all of this is that I didn't have 75 nights at Hilton last yr. I stopped at 72 because of a bad stay at the HI Seattle and ended my stay with HI early and switched to Crowne Plaza for the final three nights. Hilton did such a poor job of CS on this issue, that I didn't stay with them another night last year -- and still haven't. I mentioned this in my cover letter, and they still matched as though I had earned the full 75 nights.

Thanks, Marriott.

Regards,
stevekoe

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but I can't seem to get any response out of Marriott. I am Diamond with HHonors and Platinum with Priority Club. I called to request a status match or challenge and the told me to fax information to them. I have done that twice now, once about two weeks ago and once this past Friday. I have yet to hear back from them. I spent $8,000 at Marriotts in February and I can't even get a reply. I also sent in information on some missing stay points and it's been a week and still no answer. I'm about ready to write Marriott off completely.

Wow - guess I just needed to write to the right folks. I just received an e-mail letting me know that I would be given Gold status based on my HHonors Diamond, Priority Club Platinum, and current-year Marriott stays. Now if I could just get credit for the $4000 I spent at the Righa Royale in NYC.

You can email the info to the same folks at the email above and they will take care of it for you.

Thanks for the offer. I've e-mailed the folks above and if I don't hear from them soon, I'll drop you an e-mail. My e-mail address is listed in my profile. One quick question - the rooms I paid for were under one general account that was paid with my credit card. I was told by the hotel that I would get points for all (5) of the rooms. Is this going to be a problem?

As I understand the program and from past experience, Marriott is strict about their policy of only awarding a night's stay credit for the room in which you slept. They should however credit you points for the total $'s spent.

I got comp'd platinum from Marriott. I sent them my Priceline history at the Fairfield Inn in question, my paid stays since I joined MR, my plans for 2004, and a copy of my HH diamond card. I requested a status comp, level unspecified.

They came back in a couple of weeks with a Platinum comp.

I'm happy, and I'll make Plat this year easy.

Check other threads for the phone number in Salt Lake. Talk to the folks there; they can be very accomodating.

The person who helped me originally was Ms. Ray Campbell. I was in touch with her by using the email address [email protected]. I faxed my 2003 end of year statement from Hilton to her attention at 801-468-4033. Her reply email was very quick to point out that this is a one-time exception and I will need to re-qaulify at the expected levels going forward.

Bottom line, though...two thumbs up for Ms. Campbell.

Regards,
Stevekoe

Does anyone getting a status match already have an MR account and/or existing but lower level elite status?

I know someone who is trying to get a status match from MR. What they have found out so far is that MR is not willing to make this exception/exemption IF the requestor is an existing MR members.

My friend is MR Silver and was asking to match his HHonors Diamond status and so far MR has refused to elevate his status. (And they have lost the statements he has faxed also -- apparently they don't save correspondence).

My advice based on this account might be to cancel his MR account (after cleaning out the points of course) and go for a "fresh attempt" later this year as a non-customer. Any thoughts?

Hi I have also been trying to recieve a status match with marriott. I have Hilton honors diamond and Marriott refused to comp a higher status. I guess I was not emailing the right place. I faxed them information and the woman responded with an I'm sorry -NO. I even went out and got the credit card. Do you suggest that I try the email at flyertalk? I am currently silver with Marriott. Thanks.

Here is the response I received via email. Not too useful as I was comp'd to HH Gold and most of my Hyatt stays were booked on PLN. Oh well, it was worth a try:

[Dear Boraxo]

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards.

Marriott Rewards Elite levels are based upon the amount of Elite nights stayed at Marriott properties per calendar year.

Our Silver level requires 10 nights per calendar year. Our Gold level requires 50 nights per calendar year. Our Platinum level requires 75 nights per calendar year.

Please fax me copies of your competitors stay information statements so that I may review the amount of nights that you stay per year and I will be able to reply to you with our decision.

*Please be sure that the statements that you fax to us clearly show how many nights you stayed in 2003 and the amount of nights so far in 2004.*

Unless we can tell how many nights you stayed in 2003 and so far in 2004, we will not be able to determine your night frequency.

My fax number is xxx. Please provide your name and Marriott Rewards account number and send it to the attention of zzz.

Do keep in mind, this is a one time exception and you will need to stay the qualifying number of nights this year to retain this status for the following year.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter and for your desire to want to have Marriott as your preferred hotel chain.

Sincerely,

zzz
Marriott Rewards
