Yes, there is a level above Plat, it is referred to as Platinum Premier. Here are some threads concerning PP status:

there is also 5 * Platinum but it's only given out by referral from 1 person (anyone take a guess who the 1 person is?) :D

yeah if we knew it wouldn't be so much fun to talk about it! FWIW, I stayed 145 paid night, >90% in Renaissance properties. I wasn't invited to PP. Previous year similar stats, previous year similiar stats...you get the picture.
498 total membership nights, primarily at FS properties, and all within the past 3.5 years. And I'm not PP. :( *sob* |

As the OP to this thread, not sure if i mentioned it already, but my faith in PPremier has been restored because of Hotel 57 (renaissance) in NYC.
Super staff, an incredible room with a private balcony, bottle of wine waiting in the room on arrival, and even a red velvet cupcake from a local bakery waiting in the room because i had told them it was my wife's birthday weekend. I could share all the details that i wrote in my thank you to the GM of the hotel, but they honestly restored my faith that the PP status is indeed something that should be noticed for all the deciation we've given over the years. Kudos marriott .... thanks for a great NYC weekend. my lesson learned: * confirmation that only FS marriotts even notice the status or can do anything about it * you're better off 'calling ahead' to let them know you're coming and what you want. i didn't make a chirp to my chicago marriott and all i got was crickets back. I used the virtual conceirge for NYC and it was awesome! * always thank those that take care of you!! thanks y'all. |

In the Marriott chain, the most memorable suite upgrade was at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...ington-dulles/ They upgraded me to their presidential suite. It was between Xmas and New Years when the hotel was almost empty, but I was on a less than $100 rate. It was fantastic. Great hotel. |
I am a common plat with no earthly hope of ever reaching the heights of PP, but then from what I've read, there's not that much points since all it seems to grant is a dedicated telephone line.
On the non-guaranteed angle, a number of PP's do seem to report some good, indeed, very strong upgrades, others report dumpster views and ignorant service. No extra points though. Certainly this scheme does compare badly with say the IHG Royal Ambassador status, which at least at IC's does seem to be genuinely very special. Finally, the rules for PP are totally unpublished and opaque, as you'll find posted by others, over 400 nights in 3 years gets no sniff for some, for others 120 nights for one isolated year seems enough. Your Edinburgh stay may get you there, then again it may not. Having said that, as with other groups hidden levels, who knows precisely what the terms are?? |
Bah, humbug! Some people are just too negative!
I am just a LOWLY Platinum member, not a PP! However, please read on dear traveling collegues..... I just checked in to the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel & Convention Center about one hour ago. I have a reservation for ONE NIGHT. I MIGHT need to stay for one more night, but I am not sure yet, I will know in about three hours. While driving over to Tulsa from Missouri, I called Plat rez to ask for the telephone number of the hotel so I could inquire about the possibility of another night's stay here. I did not want necessarily to confirm a second night, because for some reason, this hotel has a 24 hour advance cancellation policy, and I did not want to get pinched for one night's room and tax if I ended up not needing the extra night. Instead, the rez agent offered to call the hotel for me and arrange for what I wanted. I told him that I was also planning on asking for a suite upgrade, so that it would be ready upon my arrival too. He asked me to hold on, he would ask for that too. No more than 90 seconds later he came back on the line with confirmation that the front desk manager confirmed both that the room would be available for me for an additional day at the same rate if I wanted it, and that I would be upgraded to a King, corner, 2 room suite upon arrival. When I arrived, the same front desk manager checked me in, recalled the telephone conversation with the rez agent, and cheerfully offered late checkout for tomorrow at 3 PM, if that would help me to avoid another night's stay, or anything else she could offer me to make my stay more convenient as a long standing Plat member. So, again, I say BAH! HUMBUG! to those of you who do not think that there is enough recognition or upgrades or good service to Plat or PP members at Marriott. I think that the recognition and quality of service at Marriott is generally quite good! Personally, I do not care about how some people are treated at Starwood or Westin or Hyatt! Add all of those hotel companies together and they are not even 2/3 the size of Marriott! There is no comparison, sorry! If you think that those hotel chains are so great, then stay there, but please, do not burden the rest of us with your negativity! |
