At the Hotel Beaux Arts Miami on a reward stay.

Upgraded to a 1 bedroom bayview suite after being thanked for being a PP.

Great use of points as the room is going for $669 per night.

checked in at Renaissance Walnut Creek, CA. Was told sorry we only have double beds. Asked why they choose to give me double beds and she said we have so many Platinums we cannot accommodate. I told her I was Platinum Premier and she said "I don't know what that is"

Did you invoke the guarantee?

I checked on the website. It appears to be gone.

Look for "Guaranteed Room Type" here: http://www.marriott.com/rewards/memb...s/guarantee.mi

If the reservation for your room at the Renaissance Walnut Creek had your Marriott Rewards number and indicated a guaranteed room type, but the hotel failed to honor the room type, you were owed $100 in compensation.

i see what happened, while my profile did specify king bed it also specified non smoking with non smoking as the greater priority and they only guarantee one. will still talk with manager later to ask why the don't fill PP requests first.

Guaranteed Room Type
When making a reservation, be sure to note both your Marriott Rewards membership number and room/bed preferences. At locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, we'll always honor your bed type request. Outside U.S. and Canada, smoking/nonsmoking preferences are honored based on availability; exact bed sizes may vary. If guarantee is not met, guest compensation applies. [GOLD/PLATINUM]

All Marriott lodging brands in the United States and Canada became 100 percent smoke-free in September 2006. Smoking/Non-smoking should not be a factor in Walnut Creek, California.

Yes, please let the manager know that some people working at the property need training about elite status levels, especially Platinum Premier. A front desk employee saying "I don't know what that is" is ridiculous. In the room assignment and upgrade process, Platinum Premier should have a higher priority than Platinum.

If you want a king bed, try to lock in a guarantee when you reserve your room. If you can't, then at least note your bed preference as a comment. Don't reserve a "king or two doubles" room and simply hope that your profile gets a king for you.

Shouldn't be a factor as there aren't smoking rooms in the US anymore. You really got hosed here and should insist on the compensation. Level of status (G, P, PP) has nothing to do with room type and nothing to do with upgrades or room selection as a PP.

Has Cali seceded?

2014 Plat Prem package

My 2014 Platinum Premier package arrived today in the mail. It contained a card (looks identical to last year) and a brochure, and the gift is an external battery for a cell phone, which I really like.

I briefly looked at the benefit guide, and it appears there are no benefits above/beyond plat.

Given all the types of different cell phones out there, how could they do this? I don't think its going to fit my iPhone... Did it come with adapters? Is it rechargable? Is it more like an external power pack with a USB connector for multiple devices? That would be beneficial.

Most likely a portable USB battery (juice) pack.

Sorry, I am not a tech savvy.

It is about the size of my thumb, and has a USB and a second outlet. It includes a cord that you charge the device (plugs into smaller outlet and USB side of cord plugs into USB charger).

When you need to power you phone, you plug the USB side of the cord into the battery, then the smaller plug from the cord goes into my cell phone (Samsung galaxy 2)

I believe it is 2600 mah.
