USA-issued card benefits changed on August 11, 2015. (Announcement & extended discussion at American Express and Starwood enhance cobrand credit card benefits.) The benefits are slightly different for personal and business cards:

FYI - this card will become the "Marriott Bonvoy American Express" card in February. Also,
"In addition, starting February 24, 2019, Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card Members whose accounts were opened before January 23, 2019 will be eligible to earn up to 100,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points. Once registered, eligible Card Members can earn 25,000 bonus points for every $25,000 in eligible purchases on the Card, for up to 100,000 points through the end of the year. Eligible Card Members will receive more information about this offer, including the relevant terms and how to register their Card soon."
So for each $25,000 in spending, customers earn at least 75,000 Marriott points.

TBH, the current earn rate for everyday spent is 2 points per dollar. By enforcing a $25k minimum so you can earn 3 points/dollar is AMEX attempt to bring back the old SPG earn rate.
It's quite weak though, with so many more cards out there that gives you 4x or even 5x points on dining/travel spend. These bank currency are worth even more than Marriott points..

Looking at adding the standard SPG Guest before they end new applications next month.
Has this one ever had a 100k welcome/referral bonus? Or is 75k the max?

If you are past 5/24 with Chase and don't need anything from Chase now, I'd say it's best to get the SPG card before it retires..

Reading what it says for the other cards though, I believe that your interpretation is correct. I'm not sure that makes it a good card to have (at least long term) as it appears there is s a good chance it will be left to wither and die.

Here is what it says: American Express will no longer accept new applications for the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express after February 12, 2019. When this Card is renamed as the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card on February 13, 2019, existing Card Members will continue to get access to the Card’s great benefits and offerings.
I took that to mean there would be no applications for the SPG card after February 12, but you could get the AmEx Bonvoy card. Reading what it says for the other cards though, I believe that your interpretation is correct. I'm not sure that makes it a good card to have (at least long term) as it appears there is s a good chance it will be left to wither and die.

American Express will send a new card, but not necessarily in February. It will likely have the same account number, but a different security code and expiration date. You will be able to ignore it for awhile, but eventually they will tell you that the old card will stop working on a specific date, and then you should activate the new card.

Has the annual free award night that comes with this card been good for a point value of 35k or less (since the merger), or has that been further watered down?

I can’t see how they’d change it already. My ancient card renewed in July so I’ll be lucky to get my very first certificate by September 2019! (Totally fair though, right Marriott?)

I thought it was only 75,000. Still, I get your point, especially with the AmEx once a lifetime bonus rule. As to your second point, I kind of doubt that. I think all these companies make good money selling their points to CC companies and have no problem devaluing them.
