I know Amex is saying once per lifetime on all bonuses so obvious question is anyone get their bonus for this card again?
I thought I read somewhere that the once per lifetime kicked in on a certain date and that if you held it before then, you were OK.
Bottom line, should I bother applying as I don't want it if I don't get the bonus
(well really, I dont want to pay the fee unless I am getting a bonus)

Amex Canada isn't as strict as Amex US. Should be no problem getting the sign up bonus again, especially if it's been 4-5 yrs. Good luck.

Did anyone else notice a change on this month's statement? In the spot where they have always listed SPG points earned it now says:
To view your Starwood Preferred
Guest® account balance, visit
spg.com

In the past it always said : Starpoints earned this Period (with a number) above that.

This was on my Consumer card, my Biz card hasn't closed yet.
My points (both Base & Reward) posted promptly today but I have no breakdown.

My statement just closed and it is exactly as it has always been. My Starpoints earned is above the statement you quote.

At the bottom of my March statement it had the breakdown of "eligible purchases" and "bonus points" There was no breakdown on my April statement.

The box with the total of 7074 is from my March statement. The box with no total is from my April statement.

Looks like the SPG amex is becoming 33.33% less valuable for unbonused spend in August. I always used to put unbonused spend on it, but I'll stop doing that in August.

Does anyone know what will happen to the Lounge Access to SPG Business card holders with new upgrade?
Since it doesn't say, will it be discontinued?

Agreed. In the next few months I'll have to do an analysis of my new primary cc card. Can't imagine it'll be SPG Amex any more. It was my primary card for 15 years... was a great run. Time for someone else to see my wallet :)

It is being discontinued effective 8/1. It's in the T&C on SPG's update page.

After August, you'll earn 2 points per $ for unbonused spend...but the transfer rate is 3 to 1 for most airlines, so that one $ won't even get you one mile if you use SPG points as your main spend for airline miles.

And currently you earn 1 starpoint for everyday spend which converts at 1:3 so you are really earning 3 Marriott Rewards points. Starting Aug 1 you will only earn 2 points, not 3. So it's a 33% devaluation on everyday non-airline transfer spend. Still makes sense for hotel stays... but that's it. Time to find a new primary cc.

Those that DO want to transfer SPG to airlines AND stay at SPG hotels a lot... can consider the new $450 annual fee cc... as that card will at least earn 3x on restaurants and airlines (which keeps it the same as the current SPG Amex for that portion of spend only). With the $300 in-hotel credit - it may be worthy if one can afford it. But the base card is doomed to lose most of us as customers.

Now, where can I short Amex stock? Another of their cards bites the dust.

2 SPG points or 2 Marriott points per dollar? Annoying that AmEx don't appear to have sent me anything to communicate this change.

From what I understand, it's 2 of the 'new' points. So, I guess Marriott. It's going to be Marriott after it's all said and done. If it were 2 SPG points (at the current valuation) I'd love that!

So very weird. I received the points but not the breakdown.

My Biz card closes next and I will see what happens there.
