are amex card holders getting the bonus? It says cardmembers "may not" be eligeable

KPT Aug 28, 2013 6:59 am

I got both (2013 SPG card). The 10K sign-up and the 15K for spending. Had an SPG card before but cancelled back in 2011, I think.

Held Plat + AMEX BC prior to SPG app.

I also had a SPG card before, but I hold an AMEX gold right now

Same question. Has anyone who has a current AMEX gotten both the sign on bonus & spend bonus for the SPG Amex? I have a Hilton Amex (and cx the SPG Amex 13 m ago).

I just applied for card, hoping to get 30,000 pt bonus, at the end it said we would be notified by mail within 14 days! I didn't like the question about how much $ we have in retirement, saving, checking! Just got the Hyatt card few weeks ago, they didn't ask how much $ we have.

I cancelled my SPG AMEX a few weeks ago before annual fee hit. The 2 stay/5 night credit hit early January like it did for everyone else who had the card in 2012, but I just noticed these on my SPG account...

Redeem 0 08/28/2013 5 Nights Credited-Amex Cobrand
Redeem 0 08/28/2013 1 Stay Credited-Amex Cobrand
Redeem 0 08/28/2013 1 Stay Credited-Amex Cobrand

Does this mean they are taking them away or did I somehow get some extra stays/nights posted? Has anyone else seen this before?

It means you are getting your 2 stays/5 nights credited to your acct. They may reverse it since you cancelled though. But for now, you are getting it.

My DW canceled her card over 6 months ago & the stay/night credits remain. AFAIK, these credits go away only when the year ends, regardless of credit card closure.

Weird... I opened the account Aug 2012 and received the stay/night credits then as well as around the first of the year.

Double Points per stay participating hotels

Where can I find the list of participating hotels that grant 2 starwood points for every $ spent using your amex card. I recently stayed at the W Bali and was expecting to get 2 points per $. W Bali must have opted out because I only got credit for my original spend. I would have used my Chase sapphire card had I known and not paid the Amex foreign transaction fee as well. Is it worth taking the time beforehand to see if the hotel you are going to stay at participates?

They all should participate. You may need to call AmEx and argue with them to research that W Bali is actually an SPG property and then fix the transaction. It is probably not coded properly in their system. I had this happen to me for a stay at the Baltimore Aloft. I had to argue with the girl that the hotel is an SPG hotel, and after a few minutes, she came back and said yes, it is.

Seems like it should be easier than this but unfortunately it isn't.

Would those extra 1x points ever be worth the 2.7% fee? Not for me. I get 2x UR like you would, and no fee. Basically, overseas, SPG induces me to use Chase, for which I likely redeem for Hyatt. Perverse, but that's the best method.

I agree with you. SPG Amex pushes me to Chase for foreign transactions. For tax purposes, SPG values a StarPoint at $0.025. So for points earned on a non-SPG foreign transaction, each point will cost the cardholder $0.027. For a SPG-related foreign transaction, the cost will drop to $0.0135/point.

I assume this is for next year right, not this year?

I want to apply for the personal card. But when I login for the short application, it shows "You have been identified as a current American Express Cardmember. The welcome offer above may not be the same as the offer you saw advertised previously because the other offer you saw is not available to current American Express Cardmembers. You will not be eligible for the above offer if you have had this product within the last 12 months."

I am just the additional cardholder of my father's SPG. Will that also disqualify me?

Thanks.
