Advance purchase rate

I'm looking at booking a hotel room for early January (about 3 weeks away). By manually entering an advance purchase reservation code, I was able to pull up a rate of $129 for a 30 day advance rate at a hotel that normally sells for $199. Looks like I would actually be able to complete this booking (even though I'm only at 20 days advance).

Anyone have any experience with this type of error? Do you think the hotel will honor the rate, or will anyone even notice?

Otherwise, it's going to be Courtyard for me. :(

I usually see advance purchase ressies that cannot be changed or cancelled....your card is charged at booking. If that is the case, I do not see how they could deny your reservation upon arrival...as it has been pre-paid.

I have also seen quite a few times where the window of time has passed - but the rate is still out there...

Corp discounts

Are retirees of companies that have Marriott discount codes eligible to use them?

it honestly depends on what the company as negotiated with a hotel...but retirees aren't typically included

If you still have a badge or other form of ID that shows your "with" the company.. you are probably fine.. I doubt those at the FD will know anything unless 1. you tell them or 2. the ID states retiree

Check with the company...at least two large companies I know of do extend these benefits to retirees. Category is different(ours is called 'other') and is a catch-all for spouses of employees and retirees. Benefits are similar.I found out about it through company's retiree website.

Thank you all for the replies.
I can still use the AAA or senior discount if it does not work.
Some discount is better than none.

When booking AAA rates...

When booking a room using the AAA rate, have you ever had the feeling that you may have missed an upgrade or perhaps landed on a non-concierge level as a result? I just wonder sometimes if you get treated differently by using a discount code.

I've never felt that way. And I use discount codes all the time, including AAA.

I use discount codes whenever possible as well. I recently went down to St. Kitts and found a great discount code (and even used the $100 Marriott Stay Stimulus coupon) and ended with an average $67/night rate that included full breakfast. Oh, and I was upgraded to a very nice Oceanview balcony room. ^

I've had some pretty good upgrades on very well discounted rates and had some with not so good rates. (And also I didn't get upgrades on discounted rates and not so good rates as well.) So as far as I can tell, my rate doesn't affect my upgrade chances.

I would say the things that will have an affect will be length of your stay, how full the hotel is, your elite status, how many other elites might also be staying there, are you a regular at the hotel, how many "upgraded" rooms does the hotel have, etc.

If you are staying somewhere for a special event, you increase your upgrade chances by contact the hotel management to let them know. I've even received a few suite upgrades doing this for some anniversary trips. Of course even this is affected by the issues I mentioned above.

MR San Juan Resort Stellaris Casino

I've just reserved 14 rooms for four nights in San Juan for May 20th using the "stay three, pay for two nights" , resrvations made in groups of three on Marriott's web site.
This is a family birthday, any suggestions from the experts for codes that would reduce the price or add perks would be much appreciated.

Given you are already getting one night free, you may have as good as it gets.

But, since you have 14 rooms, you might try calling the hotel and talking with their sales/group person. You may be able to negotiate a better rate or at least get something like free breakfast for everyone.

Agree some discount is better than none.
Sometimes, some property offers a lower rate when NOT using any booking code than either AAA or SR. I usually use NO booking code first, then look at AAA rate & compare.
