We had a Junior Suite, which was indeed on a corner, although not on the Club Floor. It also faced E/NE However, I would imagine that there would be a fair bit of light pollution from the expanse of city that spreads in front of you, which might make it harder to see the northern lights effectively from indoors anyway.

I intend to go out and drive out of town. I just thought it would be nice to see it over the city. I saw very strong lights from hotel with awful light pollution when staying at Embassy Suites in Anchorage. I saw a lot of pictures from the same night from city center as well, taken by the phones which gives indication how strong it was.

Fair enough. Our suite definitely faced ENE though.

Wow, over a year with no posts for this property!
Good news and bad news regarding the Club Lounge at this property.
First, the good news - they finally got a working espresso machine at the lounge. Their old machine was broken for more than a year, and eventually just moved out (with a pot of drip coffee brought in instead).
Today, I noticed a new espresso machine. Nothing fancy, but probably better than drip coffee.

Now the bad news - the club lounge used to serve drinks at dinner. As a Plat, I received multiple coupons, good for 2 drinks per coupon. While there are still some evening apps, there is no longer a bar up at the lounge.
As a Plat, I got 1 coupon per day good for 1 drink at the hotel bar, so in essence, it's a 50% reduction in # of drinks offered (as the old coupons were good for 2 drinks each), plus I can't get the free apps at the hotel bar.

Hope this move is only temporary, and that they return the bar to the Club Lounge in time for the summer busy season.

So I just checked in at Sheraton Anchorage and didn't find any bottled water in the room. So I went to the recption and they said bottled water is not complimentary anymore. I asked if it was just this property, she answered affirmatively.

As I'm a newbie SPGer, I just wanted to check whether there's anywhere I could check which hotel brands (unsure whether it was just this hotel or across Sheraton) provide the complimentary water? It's no biggie but when checking in at the dead of the night... it's a really nice thing to have.

Curious if anyone can comment on any Gold amenities... free parking perhaps? Anything like that over the usual points gift or drink?

No and no. However as a Gold I was given Club access (3 years ago) and an upgrade to a junior suite one time traveling with my parents. But again, as a Gold I'm sure you will be hard-pressed to push for these things as they are not benefits.

IMHO you don't need free parking. There is ample street parking around the property that is inexpensive.

I've stayed here half a dozen times (both as gold and plat) and have never been charged for parking at the hotel. They've always just given me a tag to put in the car. As for other benefits, this place is weird. I've gotten their biggest suite, I've gotten terrible rooms. It all depends on who/what is in town. They're always friendly. It's your run of the mill Sheraton to me.

Well on the otherhand if the parking is free, then take it

Just stayed there and parking was free. Full breakfast in the club in the morning as well, so much better then other domestic properties.

Amb Plat and just got a normal room, but the hotel is fine. Needs some updates overall, but close to DT and good location.

Don't know where you got that from, but this has the worst service out of any hotel in town. Probably including Motel 6.

I was in the elevator listening to someone talking about how she stays here but never gets recognition for frequent stays. She also cannot get room service here. She orders, nothing comes for 45 minutes, she calls and gets a voicemail.

I have also called "guest services" from my room in the evening and the phone rang for literally minutes. Check-in is always a wait, whether in the evening or in the afternoon. I just feel the unpleasant vibe whenever I come here.

The only plus is the good view from the lounge and the comfortable beds. But that doesn't make up for all its deficiencies (a truly old property, with no charm).

The website says it is $20; is it only free for elites?
Have renovations begun here? and if so what are they doing?

Just had a two separate stays of 1 and 2 nights sandwiched around a trip to Homer for the FT Alaska DO.

Both stays:
- booked regular room w/2 beds using points
- "upgraded" to Club level room
- as mentioned above, no bottled water
- bathroom amenities included body wash, conditioner, and body lotion but no shampoo (but was readily available by asking housekeeping in the hallway)

only breakfast option seemed to be during the lounge hours (missed it one day and asked if there was an alternative restaurant credit/voucher and was told no; went to Paris Cafe next door which was average/ok, with adequate but not particularly warm or efficient service)

parking was free ("should be $20/night but I don't like to charge Plats for parking")

MAGC was available (500 pts/night)

On the first stay I observed what IMO is a poor location for the soap dish. I was not surprised when the soap dish in the second room was partially broken off from the wall:

second room also had what might've been dried-up bloody snot on the shower curtain:

Any recent updates? Particularly interested in lounge (website indicates it IS open weekends, yes?), Titanium benefits, wifi quality, location. Do they still offer nightly drink coupons to the bar?. Older thread says there was a hotel shuttle to town--still?? When was hotel last refreshed?

I understand a 4 Points will be opening in September so that should be a nice addition.

Thanks in advance.
