Both restaurants are reasonably priced.
While Girdwood is not that close, the Double Musky Inn is also a worthy choice if you're in that area.

If you're willing to get a taxi the bar/pizza spot called The Moose's Tooth is terrific. Great local brews, incredible pizza. I think worth the extra $10 cab ride. I actually walked there and then took a cab home.

You should if they are reaching down to Anchorage's latitude, although the high number of city lights will interfere with your viewing.

^ If there are visible northern lights, I'd try to get somewhere where there's little interference from city lights. It shouldn't be too far away.

Is there a reason why you want to be in Anchorage with no car? You're going off season so rates should be cheap - cheaper than taking a cab to/from the airport.

OK, great. If there's Northern Lights while you're there, drive to an unlit area of town. There are plenty of parks, etc that will be dark at night. That would help considerably in seeing Northern Lights. You'd probably have to drive less than 10 minutes to find a dark area.

There are several Northern Lights forecast websites; here's one: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast

I understand there is no Uber in Anchorage. Would anyone know how much a taxi ride would cost to the Sheraton from the airport?

For those of you who LOVE this hotel (NB I am not one of them), a great rate of $72 is available most weekends in January at:

I booked Club floor suite at $131 which I though is a good price, isn't it? However it's in February.

I didn't do research on floor plans yet, but does anybody know in which part of the building these suites are? From pictures it looks like they could be on a corner. I'd like to have panoramic view, possibly to north or north west, so I can see northern lights if they show up. Of course I will be checking webcams, but it will be nice to see them from the window too.
