No one is saying they will stop staying at Marriott because of the name. But that doesn't mean people can't criticize how ridiculous this name is and how wasteful it has been to spend money on marketing and rebranding when they should be spend money on delivering more benefits.
And no one wasted your money.
Armchair corporate executiving is a new sport, apparently.

RewardsPlus
Does this have any bearing on or implication for RewardsPlus-granted status? Will Bonvoy continue the status tie-up? Will gold->platinum->gold status update on the Bonvoy changeover date?
I don't believe there's been any clear official statement.

Mobile account access will be available via the new Marriott Bonvoy app. The Marriott App will become the Marriott Bonvoy App at the completion of a software update. However, SPG and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Apps will be retired. Users of those apps will be notified and prompted to download the new Marriott Bonvoy App.

I think the tacky name and status level change is indicative of how tone-deaf the Marriott people are and is very much related to the poor customer engagement/communication, IT fiasco, and quality control issues. It would be foolish to direct 100% of branding resources to fixing those issues, but there should be some indication that the issues are being addressed. This announcement and the timing of it seem to completely gloss over the real, lingering problems of this integration.

I'm actually delighted they named the program Bonvoy! It creates a shiny new diversion for the "usual suspects" in this forum who spend all day, every day, spinning likes tops about what property screwed them out of "free breakfast" You have a whole new thing to get yourselves all worked into a tizzy about and can spend the days tearing your clothes and gnashing your teeth about the marketing name for a hotel loyalty program for awhile.
Win-win for me!
Regards

I figure he knows how it should be pronounced.
Also: Westin is not new to this odd-sounding "brand" idea. In the 90s, they tried and failed with the Allegis mashup. You'd think they'd learn.
I think one of the reasons the name sounds so...awful...is because it starts with a B and ends with a Y and has two different "o" sounds in it. I can't think of any brand that comes across so jarring in just two syllables.

Its a shame how much they're obviously focused entirely on blowing money on useless junk like this instead of getting their customer service out of the gutter and fixing their piece of crap website and IT back end.
