Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

New data point for the new year.
I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:
The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

Yeah unfortunately I think the agent might be right.
If you refer to the chart, OC9 has a refund value of 165K, which means the agent would cancel your OC9 and refund you 165k points to your account, than request/purchase a NC7 for 315k points. Therefore, you would need to pay the difference which is 150k points (315k - 165k)

The difference between the current cat 6 and cat 7 is 10k per night and indeed if you were to purchase a new flight + hotel package from Marriott today you would pay an extra 60k to move from one with a cat 6 hotel to a cat 7 hotel when purchased new (10k/night, 5th night free). There most certainly is a different order code for the post 8/18 travel packages that reflects the different refund values of those packages versus the OC packages. Since the new travel packages are not a good deal it is unlikely anyone has purchased one to find the new order codes and it does not really matter for someone with an OC or converted cert since you will not get the refund value of someone who purchased a package today and you would not want to order a cert based on the refund values of someone who purchased a package today (because it is too expensive).
The issue some are not grasping is the mapping of OC to NC certs. In order to convert an OC cert to an NC cert there is a mapping and if your original cert was an OC then you will be charged OC mapping prices to upgrade. What some people are hoping for is akin to buying something onsale (OC cert, converted to NC cert) and treating the value of it as if they paid the full current points cost for it and expecting to exchange their converted cert for another based on the full value that they never paid. It doesn't work that way. If you go to a store and buy something on sale you cannot wait until it is not on sale and return it for the full non-sale price.

I'm also looking for a NC8 TP Cert. I don't know if there's a way to upgrade to this category, but I know they are selling the full package with 100,000 airline miles and 7 nights in Category 8 hotel for 750,000. Has anyone booked one of these yet? Do you know what the code is that's associated with the hotel portion of the travel package? Can anyone try booking one to see what the code is?

Anyone who has the points can book one but there are no refunds so no one is going to book this for educational purposes. No one has posted a Cat 8 code here yet. I would guess no one wants to book one of the new packages. They are not that great a value.

I have a question asking for advice. I have an NC5 attached to a Cat. 6 hotel (previously cat. 5) in At the Wailea RI in Maui in December. I also booked dates in January because I wasn't sure which one I'd be doing. Turns out January will work out better.
As I understand, these are the steps:
Call Marriott Rewards (does it matter if I call the UK office or the US one if I'm not upgrading? )
Ask them to detach but NOT cancel the certificate... DETACH.
After confirming, ask to apply the Certificate to the January reservation ( it currently says 300,000 points... but I booked it when it was cat. 5 )
After everything is said and done, and confirmed, feel free to cancel the reservation.
Should I spoon-feed the agent, or explain the whole thing first?
Is there any language I should use that will help ensure they DETACH the NC5 and not CANCEL.
Is there any language I should use if they say I can't apply the cert to a cat. 6 property (it was cat. 5 when booked)?

I havent seen any reports of this happening (not to say it won’t happen). Please report back if you get it to work.

My new certificate (Cat 5) will expire this November and it sound like I cannot extend my NC5 for another year? If not, then can I book BEFORE november but fulfill my stay AFTER november expiration date?

Can I use the US number to detach an OC9 from a reservation without converting, or do I need to call the UK number to accomplish this?

Have read the Wiki - am a bit confused how many point I have to pay to convert OC5 to NC5? Going to be attempting this week with a cert that expires in August.'
Also to confirm I'm asking for QP88 to go from OC5 to NC5? And pay additional 45k points?

I have 2 old cat 1-5 7 nights certificates. Call in to book 7 nighs hotel use 1 of my certificate, didn’t ask the cs convert to the new cat 4 before booking. The booking when through but after 3 days they didn’t take any of my certificate out of my account. Is that normal? Will they take it on the day of my check in or something wrong with my booking? Thanks!
