Declining Housekeeping to Receive Points is Becoming a Scam

For the few Bonvoy points that is worth about $2, it is not worth it anymore. I don't actually need housekeeping to clean the room everyday, but getting fresh towels and replenishment of coffee pods is something I am willing to give up $2 for. So Marriott can keep its $2 and pay the housekeeping staff instead.

Not true. My friend (who I've mentioned on other threads & to protect him will not mention the property) is at a brand that isn't part of MAGC but they get requests all the time about no housekeeping/some points via the MAR app, even though they're not a brand that participates.. They are not actually required to do so since they're not a brand that participates, but the GM as a nice gesture to Plats & above manually inputs it. Ironically, the people who say no housekeeping then call down to the front desk to ask for new towels, etc, which they would get as a normal stay-over but wouldn't get in a no-service situation, so to a certain extent they're gaming the program. If you don't want housekeeping, then don't ask for housekeeping. But again, MAGC is limited in brands that participate. For those that do, absolutely chase the points. For those that don't, well it's iffy then.
Cheers.

I emailed my Ambassador and she "topped me off" on points with a customer service gesture credit (something like 8,000 points for this year's stays) but this seems like a really ineffective way to handle this problem since this should be coming from the hotel and not corporate.

My issue is that the $2 (or really $3.50 or so) adds up over time. I stay probably 100+ MAGC eligible nights (i.e., not last nights, etc) so that is $300+ a year if most of my stays are at full service properties that participate (and they are, although I do squeeze in a few stays at 250 point/night properties).

Agreed that it is an ineffective way to get points you deserved, but at least you can do it with just one email. Would you do it if you have to make 35 calls to get those 8,000 points? Or 20 calls? I know I won't waste that much time because the Bonvoy points are just not that valuable. 8,000 points is about $64 at $.008 a point. But it is really a personal choice.

It was never an issue until Bonfire came along. Starwood properties used to give 3X points than what they give now and there were rarely posting issues. So I doubt it's the hotels trying to "get away with it". Put the blame where it lies. Marriott's broken IT.

I stayed with the Aloft Chicago Mag Mile a month ago and despite selecting “green choice” (in app and in person at check-in) and asking for points, I kept getting green choice discount vouchers for the bar shoved under my door. At check out I returned all vouchers and reminded the front desk person of my choice for points and they said it’s been corrected, yet no points posted. I completed a ‘missing points” form online with Bonvoy – without any response. Ugh...

We would like to help look into the missing bonus points for you, if you could provide your account and reservation details to us via private mail here or by email below.

No, you'll still get 500 Bonvoy pesos, which indeed are equivalent in value to 167 SPG points. So, if they reduce it to 250 Bonvoy pesos, yes, it will be equivalent to 83 SPG points in the old program.

Typically have aired complaints on this board (in addition to asking for info from others!), so I figured I should note that in my past two stays (at a Marriott and a SHS in the Chicago metro area), I believe I have been given my "Make A Green Choice" points automatically, without needing to follow up! Now, I may be mistaken (as the way the lump it into the "extra" points doesn't make it itemized), but I believe it to be the case. Now, two straight doesn't mean this isn't still a scam at most hotels (that never post them), but thought I'd post some positive points when they arise.
