FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: cmhsieh54
cmhsieh54 in post #1965 suggests that if you have an upcoming stay and if the online system (i.e. website/app) loses your confirmation number, and your online/telephone correspondence with corporate hotlines get you nowhere, call the hotel directly and give them your name and check-in date. Chances are quite high they'll find the confirmation number on their end and they will add it back to your online profile. It's a 2-minute fix; and a better day when we all don't have to be troubled by 'bugs'.

(Below is Marriott's own guidance about this 'bugs' thread)

If you're here, you are obviously experiencing some issues with the web site. Our apologies for any inconvenience. We have an interest in giving you the best web experience possible, so here are some tips on how to get any problems resolved:

First of all, the web assistance team has this suggestion for you:

"We first suggest the normal steps of clearing their cache (temporary files) and cookies, logging out of their Marriott Bonvoy account online, then close all browser windows before trying again. Please note that clearing cookies may also remove any stored passwords in the browser.

It is important for them to log out to ensure no bad/old data is saved and so that the online account has a chance to refresh.

You may already be aware of this, but note that cache and cookies are 2 different things. The cache memory is what remembers old content for faster page loading and may cause errors after updates. Cookies are mostly only meant for tracking during the current session. Both can still remember old errors that may have existed in the browser."

You should also be aware that being on a VPN sometimes interferes with your browsing experience. Try browsing without being on a VPN and see if this fixes the issue.

If none of this resolves your issue(s), you can you can send an email to [email protected] along with any screenshots leading up to and including the error message.

It also helps if you include the following information in your email:

-What browser(s) have you tried? Is the issue happening over multiple browsers or just one?
-Are you using a desktop/laptop or a mobile device?
-If you are using mobile device does this issue persist when on a desktop/laptop?

Once we have this information, we can forward it on to the web assistance team for further review, so please be as complete as possible.

If you are having an issue with any of the Marriott Bonvoy apps, you can send the following information directly to the Marriott Bonvoy App team at [email protected]:

-What device and operating system are you using?
-What version of our app do you have installed?
-What is the problem you have encountered?

Marriott is flat out lying now on its website. The "reviews" section is completely bogus on the search results page. For example, see below. Search results page shows a 4.3 star with 796 reviews. The actual reviews page is 3.7 star with 129 reviews.

Dog pile of a website is getting worse and worse. Most of the time if I click on the "Reviews" section from the search results page I get a Bad Gateway error. They don't even want you to see the reviews!

Here is another fun one I've been seeing with the updated 'lipstick on a pig' interface... I search for a hotel and get results... then later go back to the main page to search for other hotels or same location again using the 'Destination' field. It saves my previous/recent searches, except the dates are WRONG. If I searched for Fri-Sun, the 'recent' is actually a Thus-Sat. It is always shifted by 1 day earlier than what I actually searched for. So not if I'm not really paying attention and just click to search on the prior/recent search it will give me the wrong dates and I could end up accidentally booking it for the wrong dates.

+1 I have also experienced the issue (bug) with the dates being shifted by one day for recently saved searches. At first I thought I had fat fingered the date. When it happened multiple times, I realized it is a bug.

P.S. Unrelated to this issue, experienced problems with both modifying and booking points reservations yesterday (Sunday). Took multiple attempts and had to cancel and book a new reservation rather than modify the existing one. Even when I did succeed at making a reservation, the website returned an error. Had to confirm the reservation was actually made with the Android App and eventual receipt of the congfirmation email. Haven't tried today, so don't know if it has been fixed yet.

.Com search/booking problems & fixes

Marriott system
1. generally is slow to grab rates from database ...literally the printed words appear and where the rates+description appear is grey and you can understand it's thinking/working as a wave goes across the grey highlighted area ... bandwidth ? too many users at same time?

2. for approx 45 minutes now, a new error ...main / default page won't even load

3. Maps searching ...is not dynamic (Hilton is) when zooming in/out no option to search again using current view (IHG has this). So, need to start another search with another location near to the new focal point+radius . Solutions other than a new search?

4. Various Promo's with their own rate codes (have a general idea, QRI, UK8, etc) though not so easily understood which Promo's apply. Possibly need to go property by property within a city (with multiple properties) to each property's website. Promo's can & do vary for the properties within a particular city and need to try the various rate codes. Or go to particular Promo, key in city and if property doesn't appear then seems that Promo is not available. Seeming "overlapping" Promo's "stay longer" 15-20% vs Escapes 15 & 20%.

5.. Some easy way to find properties for a whole region (vs country by country ) and rank lowest to highest. Have a lot of flexibility in travels and try to plan multi-country trips is relatively way more time-consuming with Marriott vs Hilton ... Hilton results can see by region / continent, both rates and Points, on map ...with results fast .... Marriott , go look how Hilton does it.

Dosent the technical team constantly monitor the site to find these problems themselves , or get alerted by a lurker in forums like this ? Or do you expect your customers to do the leg work ?

Hahaha

You get to deal with emails from them for weeks answering the same questions over and over, along with "can you try this" and "can you give us tons of tracing feedback" Then nothing for a month. Then a "is it fixed yet" email...

Throwing up 401 error pages with nginx just trying to log in or book rooms now. Absolutely insane. This from a company that had over 23B in revenue last year? Maybe they should have spent some of it on making their website work and not keel over randomly. The loading speed of pages is just abysmal too, I had pages load faster on a 56k modem two decades ago.

Yesterday afternoon, my existing reservations started showing only the dates, hotel name, a large picture of the hotel, and a map. There is no way to see other reservation details or to make changes or cancel. I assumed this would be resolved shortly, but I am still seeing the same thing now, nearly 20 hours later. Are other people seeing this, too?

Existing reservations are displaying normally for me. View/modify function is also working. I am also able to see my point activity. This is as of 9:15 AM ET on 4/17.

Point activity yesterday didn't show on the Activity page but is back this morning. Yesterday I noticed it did show on the Overview page though.

This won't bother most, but Marriott has updated their system so that the app is not working on Android 9 or later any more. I still use an older Xperia XZ1 Compact phone, and yesterday I was given a popup saying that I should download the newer app, and won't let me exit the popup. I had to use version 10.12 instead of the latest versions, but it still worked fine until yesterday. I tried using the last version 9 update, 9.42 I believe, and received the same popup. Marriott also uses a strong blocker so that unlocking the bootloader to install lineageos leads to blocking the usage of the app also. Sony doesn't allow the bootloader to be locked after unlocking, so that isn't an option. Hyatt was the first I noticed to disallow Android 9 to install their app. Frustrating for me, but as said before, I am no doubt the very small minority here.

Cant login to Marriott Bonvoy account. Says page doesnt exist after going through dual authentication steps. Not seeing this as a widespread issue based on the several posts above. Any one have a resolution or history with this?
