FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides

cmhsieh54 in post #1965 suggests that if you have an upcoming stay and if the online system (i.e. website/app) loses your confirmation number, and your online/telephone correspondence with corporate hotlines get you nowhere, call the hotel directly and give them your name and check-in date. Chances are quite high they'll find the confirmation number on their end and they will add it back to your online profile. It's a 2-minute fix; and a better day when we all don't have to be troubled by 'bugs'.

(Below is Marriott's own guidance about this 'bugs' thread)

If you're here, you are obviously experiencing some issues with the web site. Our apologies for any inconvenience. We have an interest in giving you the best web experience possible, so here are some tips on how to get any problems resolved:

First of all, the web assistance team has this suggestion for you:

"We first suggest the normal steps of clearing their cache (temporary files) and cookies, logging out of their Marriott Bonvoy account online, then close all browser windows before trying again. Please note that clearing cookies may also remove any stored passwords in the browser.

It is important for them to log out to ensure no bad/old data is saved and so that the online account has a chance to refresh.

You may already be aware of this, but note that cache and cookies are 2 different things. The cache memory is what remembers old content for faster page loading and may cause errors after updates. Cookies are mostly only meant for tracking during the current session. Both can still remember old errors that may have existed in the browser."

You should also be aware that being on a VPN sometimes interferes with your browsing experience. Try browsing without being on a VPN and see if this fixes the issue.

If none of this resolves your issue(s), you can you can send an email to [email protected] along with any screenshots leading up to and including the error message.

It also helps if you include the following information in your email:

-What browser(s) have you tried? Is the issue happening over multiple browsers or just one?
-Are you using a desktop/laptop or a mobile device?
-If you are using mobile device does this issue persist when on a desktop/laptop?

Once we have this information, we can forward it on to the web assistance team for further review, so please be as complete as possible.

If you are having an issue with any of the Marriott Bonvoy apps, you can send the following information directly to the Marriott Bonvoy App team at [email protected]:

-What device and operating system are you using?
-What version of our app do you have installed?
-What is the problem you have encountered?

Can't book an award night at a former SPG property. It keeps kicking me back to the guest information screen. Can't believe they fail to get this right after 2 months.

Edit: just called in and reservations can't make the booking either. The agents response was "well its a big system". This program is a total mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow that's pretty bad!

401 error. Marriott app down, SPG app shows search results of the SPG hotels. That looks very bad.

Yes. Just happened to me. Unable to book a points stay on line. Called in agent said my account is invalid and unable to book. I made a comment about what a mess the merger is and the response was "well its a big system". Totally unacceptable. Ended the call with no resolution and no suggestion on how to correct. How can this possibly be? So I am flat out not able to book a former SPG property. Marriott should be ashamed.

I get that fairly often - it’s usually up by the next time I try, often just a few min later.

Yes, both MR and SPG access is down. Funny thing is different error messages.

I can't sign in to either the Marriott or the SPG side... and both apps are down as well and have been for over half an hour.

Another Marriott technology upgrade.

Let us all pray to the newly placed Books of Mormon for a quick resolution.

Angry Multiple Rates Grid

I find this the most infuriating part so far. I spent an hour with an agent on the platinum line today learning how to go in and select "change rates" and then update but this is under EACH hotel offered; and there are now a dozen hotels that populate my San Diego destination. I can no longer see at a glance the corporate rate, best rate, cash & Points rate or other specials option - until I drill down and massage the rates under EACH hotel.....RIDICULOUS oversight. I want my SPG back.

Well, after a lot of this during the three weeks past the System merge date, everything went very smoothly for me for some weeks until today.
Yesterday I was able to book some reservations and to finally merge my accounts: all Points, this years nights and Lifetime yxears + nights merged nicely, Lifetime Gold realized and just a few nights to go to LTP, 5 Hours ago I was able to select the 50 nights gift, 3 Hours ago my 5 SNAs had posted...
….and exactly since then - I want to use them for a stay starting next Sunday - I am too getting the error *sigh*

So let's hope htey'll fix it soon and as anooying as it is - and was for the three weeks after the Merger - this is a big Task and I have to say kudos to them for making it happen. In the big Picture, I'm quite happy.

Did you see the part where Marriott implemented this IT system only 2 years ago? If they were looking to improve their IT, why didn't they have a look at the one Starwood was using after they just spent a gazillion dollars to buy them???

I made a list of what I thought were some of the shortcomings of the Marriott website which I posted a few weeks ago. Here it is:
  • Fax numbers instead of email addresses in spite of claiming to cater to the millennials.
  • No breakdown of points earning in the activity summary by using Extra as the catch all for anything that isn't Base points or Elite bonus.
  • No identification of which property has been booked in the activity summary when award reservations are made or cancelled.
  • No confirmation of the number of points withdrawn on the confirmation email for award reservation.
  • No breakdown of base price and taxes in confirmation email for revenue reservations.
  • No way to see multiple prices at the same time in a grid when booking revenue reservations.
  • No way to sort by price except by modifying the URL.
  • The default for the activity list is 5 items. Seriously?
  • Items are not always listed chronologically in the activity list.
  • LNF is calculated on each individual night instead of the average rate for a multi-night booking.
  • LNF team refuses to subtract the taxes on websites that quote tax included prices if the price breakdown isn't shown, yet this is something Marriott can't seem to do!
  • Points to miles transfers have gone from 2-10 days depending on the airline to 6-8 weeks! (My 5000 bonus miles got lost on the way to SQ on my last transfer.)
  • A mega bonus promo that seems designed to infuriate members rather than welcome them to the new merged program and soothe them after a total CF of a merge which isn't complete almost 2 months later. I don't think we've ever had a single promo that NO ONE is happy with.
  • A sweepstake with a countdown that completely missed its take off mark.
  • A system that assigns members new numbers that start with a 0 but then won't let them make reservations with that number for another 2 months.
  • The most confusing breakfast program that no one can understand, including the properties that are supposed to offer them (eg Courtyard that wants the $10 credit used before midnight of check-in day).
  • Vanishing points, reservations, stay/night credits and status levels. And of course, there are many people who are now holding higher status levels than they are entitled to.
