To me, it seems a bit disrespectful to put other stuff in the same drawer as a religious book, although I wouldn't have the same reaction if it were on a bookshelf. In the extreme, would you put bikinis, sexy underwear, birth control, sex toys, and porn on top of the Book of Mormon? What about coffee and alcohol, or prescription drugs like antidepressants?

I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Sarasota last month and there was both a Bible and a Book or Mormon in the bedside draw.
There were a stack in the gym locker room (which I don't understand the purpose) and more in the indoor spa.
My view is that in a globalised economy in 2016 no books of worship should be placed in any hotels. I wonder what the literal conversion rate of them are!

I don't feel a need to move the bible/BOM if they're in a drawer. Just put things on top of them. I do have a tendency to move all the various flyers/magazines/breakfast cards (non-religious) that are on desktops/end tables to a single spot to get rid of clutter.
BTW - I too thought of the Broadway play when I first saw the thread title
Cheers.

Without judgement, the answer appears to be yes (but not W or Design)

Marriott International, which bought Starwood two years ago, has begun putting copies of the Bible and the Book of Mormon in the recently-acquired hotels. By year’s end, it expects to place the books in 300,000 rooms.
... Marriott doesn’t own the majority of its hotels. However, it stands out from the other companies by requiring — in franchise or licensing agreements — its 6,500 properties to have the books in each room.
...
Starwood’s 50 W hotels — one of the first chains to sell “intimacy kits” that include condoms — won’t get the books. Neither will the 140 independently owned Design Hotels, most of which are in Europe. Marriott’s youth-focused Moxy brand and its luxury Edition brand also don’t have the books in their rooms.

Looks like its time to update my Ambassador profile to have all religious materials removed from my room.

i doubt this is true. Arab countries usually have a Qibla for Muslim guests. It may be a marker on the ceiling or discreetly on the table or inside the draw.
The article says:
Hotels in certain locations — such as Vietnam and Indonesia — also don’t have a Bible or a Book of Mormon because it might be considered inappropriate, Marriott said. In those places, hotels have the option to provide a card in the room that tells guests to call the front desk if they would like religious materials.

This is another reason Marriott is tone-deaf and I believe their misjudgements will not earn them the same loyalty SPG enjoyed from it's customers.

Why would you ask the hotel to go to this trouble? Why not just ignore the book(s) in the drawer?
