Will the Book of Mormon be placed in Marriott-acquired Starwood hotels ?

Any reports of Marriott putting the Book of Mormon in our Sheraton, Westin, W, Le Meridien, etc. rooms?

Folks, as can probably be guessed, this thread has already attracted a number of 'bad post' reports from concerned forum members, and some posts have been removed.

The narrow question of whether Starwood's new owners will be placing the Book of Mormon in Starwood hotels is relevant and on-topic in the SPG forum, so the thread title and first post have been edited to reframe the discsussion in these terms.

However, discussion of the wider 'religion' topic belongs in the OMNI/PR forum, so please limit contributions in this thread only to :
1) confirmatory evidence that Marriott will or will not, as a policy, be placing the Book of Mormon in Starwood hotels
or
2) guest-confirmation that the Book of Mormon has been placed in a Starwood hotel.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I certainly don't want to participate in dragging this thread to OMNI territory, but would be remiss if I failed to report that a few years ago, I checked into a Radisson that turned into a Marriott overnight (in Paris). In the morning, housekeeping carts were loaded with bibles, and when we returned to our room in the afternoon, there was a bible on the coffee table, sitting atop some magazines (seems like the maids had no idea what they were supposed to do with them). It was astounding to us that Marriott's absolute top priority seemed to be to DELIVER BIBLES FIRST THING IN THE MORNING, especially since little effort had been made to make sure that the front desk had a way to access our Radisson reservations, so they had no idea what room type and rate we had booked.

I've found it increasingly rare that Book of Mormon is still included in the Marriott FS properties I've stayed at. Doubting that they will show up in SPG properties.

I can't recall a Marriott family hotel stay where there wasn't a Book of Mormon in the room, usually inside a drawer. When I was a kid, there usually was an indication that you were welcome to take the Book of Mormon with you, but I haven't seen that notice recently.

It might be hit or miss. As some properties get renovated they might not be restocking them, especially those that are eliminating some dressers/drawers for 'millennials'.

FWIW & speaking only for myself, whether it was BOM, the Bible, etc, they've usually been in drawers & I have no problem tossing clothes/electronics on/don't really pay attention to them.

Cheers.

Somewhere within the last six months or so I noticed housekeeping in a Marriott replacing Book of Mormon with new fresh copies.

To me, it seems a bit disrespectful to put other stuff in the same drawer as a religious book, although I wouldn't have the same reaction if it were on a bookshelf. In the extreme, would you put bikinis, sexy underwear, birth control, sex toys, and porn on top of the Book of Mormon? What about coffee and alcohol, or prescription drugs like antidepressants?

I guess it depends on whether you need to use that drawer. Of course, you could move the book to another drawer or someplace else in the room, but then if you forget to move it back, could the housekeeper report it as missing? I wouldn't want to be billed, nor would I want the hotel to conclude that I had stolen something from my room.

I wouldn't worry about being billed, over many years of travel I've heard from people who take offense and throw any type of religious 'literature' in the garbage can as soon as they see it. They've never said they were billed, but perhaps others here can share their experiences?

If I needed the drawer space, yes. A book is a book. Nothing more.

I actually thought this was about the play, and not the actual book. 😀

I have never been billed. Its the first thing I look at when entering a (Marriott) hotel room. Have not seen many, (maybe not any at all) in Starwood or Hilton hotels at all..

I was just at the new AC Hotel in Minneapolis, and while I didn't actively look for any religious texts while I was in the room, thinking back, I don't believe they stocked them. They weren't out in the open, and there wouldn't have been anyplace to put them-- there was no desk drawer, no drawers around the bed, and no dresser. (The only drawer in the entire room was a single one in the open closet area, which I used.)

Really? I don't see how it's disrespectful to ignore unsolicited proselytizing of beliefs that you don't hold. I wouldn't deliberately damage it, just as I wouldn't deliberately damage any other hotel property. I really don't understand, though, why you would expect me to show special deference to a bible or the Book of Mormon, or any other "holy" book of beliefs I don't hold.

One data point would be what happened at Ritz Carlton, post merger.

Any first hand observations of bedside drawers at an RC?
