The Sthala has its own review thread, but in short, my advice would be: Give it a miss. It's very basic, has lots of bad rooms, and there's nothing special about it. I recently looked for Bali hotels for summer, and could have BRGed the Sthala for less than $50/nt, and I still had no interest in staying there.

- sounds very promising. Do you plan to stay immediately after the opening? I think we will be in Bali this May and I am not too excited about Sthala...

I'm considering heading to DPS next week and would maybe clock in a stay on opening day just for fun. On the face of it the location seems much better than the Shtala (walking distance to city center, monkey forest etc).

I think it's quite a long walk from Element to Ubud city centre, monkey forest...

It's not close but walkable if one wants to take the time. Not so much with the other option... we shall see.

Anyone have experience with the new Element Ubud?

Going to Bali and looking to spend 2-3 days in Ubud. Wondering if the Element is a good choice since the Sthala is not very well recommended.

It may not be of much help for you, but if there is any consistency of the brand, Elements in Asia should be good. I have stayed at Element Kuala Lumpur and really liked the hotel itself and the service there.

Thanks for the input. Being that the price is almost the same, I was just curious if anyone had experience with the two properties. The Element is a cat 1 while the Sthala is a cat 4.
