This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

I've had more luck with upgrades at the Renaissance than at the Marriott. Being PP didn't help me at all at the Marriott.

I am planning on visiting Aruba during this xmas holidays(Dec27-Jan4).

I can use 280,000 pts on the Marriott Aruba or 210,000 on the Renny.

But the rooms at the Marriott states that its the adj to construction. How bad will it be.

Or what is the chance of getting upgraded to better room at the Marriott? I am a platinum premier if it matters, but I would imagine that week would be pretty busy for the hotel.

Would the Renny be a better option? though I would like to stay near Palm Beach instead of downtown.
Both of those hotels are well known for requesting paid or points supplements for upgrades, ESPECIALLY at peak holiday periods.

As a plat prem, you are "guaranteed" an upgrade if available. First ask if there are any upgrades, then demand yours. However, when I was there, there were about 55 PPs

The Ritz is being built next door. Did not bother us

FWIW, I went with Setar. For USD37 (~AFL66) I got a SIM card with 500MB (plus calls and minutes, but I don't recall the quantity of either) that was good for a month.

BTW, if any FTer wants both the SIM (which loses its stored value on the 12th, but can be reloaded, which should save you the USD23(?) activation fee) PM me. I also have a reload card with AFL10 on it (not sure of expiration date, but I suspect it's at least 90 days from 7/12), I'd give it away for cheap.

Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

Question for those that have stayed here.

I know it is a "resort" and does not have to offer upgrades and/or breakfast/lounge access, but..................

Will it make a difference if I arrive Gold versus Platinum as far as any possible upgrade, etc?

I am very close to Platinum and my be there before I arrive (as of now, I will hit 75 nights during my stay in Aruba).

If it makes a difference, I will find a way to be Platinum before I arrive.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yes, higher status = better chance for an upgrade... but of course it depends on season and how full the resort is. If they're really busy, higher status isn't going to help when there aren't rooms available.

As to upgrades, rules are no different at resorts. Same as any other full service property. As to this particular property, I was upgraded as a plat.

Thank you OHMARK.

What had you reserved and what did they upgrade you too?

Thanks

Does the Ren charge for the private island or is that part of a resort fee one pays anyways at the Ren? (if not on award stay).

Thanks BillMorrow^. Mrs & I are not going to dine at Ruth Chris (or any place like it) when on a Caribbean island, we are looking for restaurants that are unique to Aruba.

Anyone dined at restaurant Nos Cunucu? (in Papiamento (the local dialect) means "the farm.") I've read it is set in a traditional Aruban home. Apparently they serve dishes native to Aruba such as savory goat stew and keshi yena, a hollowed-out cheese rind stuffed with chicken, raisins and vegetables

its included in your stay. Ren doesnt have direct access to beach, but I would take the private island any day over the palm beach. As another poster said - thats where we spent most of our vacation - literally first boat out and last back.

You will use your room card to be identified as guest who is allowed to get on the boat. You also need a key for each member of the party.

upon further research, I found a website of the Old Cunucu House, this is now on our "for sure" list for dining. Found a video on youtube about the restaurant, pretty sure this is how NOT to make a restaurant video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-TyITuVLV8
