Applied - also got immediate approval.

3rd AMEX card in under 30 days I've applied for. In the meantime I also applied for and got approved for CIBC Aerogold and MBNA Alaska Mastercard.

A gentleman never kisses and tells.

I'll hazard a guess that the 2nd and 3rd Amex cards possibly did not make hard pulls. The full damage report, if any, won't be known till all of the cards have been reported to your credit file...give it a month or so for the full impact assessment.

Does the 20K signup bonus still hold if applying to the card through GCR?

No...not yet anyway. GCR tends to lag the initial promo offerings. If you don't need the SPG points immediately, you may want to just hold off and see if the 20K offer appears at GCR, though I don't recall if it ever showed 20K at their site in the previous times.

Conditionally approved. Oh, the shame.

I've made quite a few applications in the past month, though.

Phone application

Does anyone know if I can applied through the phone and get the 20k? I am currently in oversea, and after reading Avery's blog he said that it is not a good idea to apply credit when you are not in Canada.

I called AMEX and the rep only offers 10k and then the rep tried to sign me up for the Platinum card and will give me a "special offer" of 50k bonus points of MR.

Maybe our friendly double-dipper can respond to your questions. See Preacher7's comments here:

He says Canadian Amex isn't so stringent with these rules. And, I'm sure he has EXTENSIVE personal experience with applying for Canadian Amex cards, without his feet planted in Canadian cow pastures.

Now to wait and see how long it takes for the SPG points to arrive.

I received my card end of November, passed the $1000 spend on Dec 13, and statement posted Dec 23.

Still no points, and the standard "6-8 week response" from Amex

Probably follow up with a call after application the next day to confirm your identity if applying from a foreign server.

I just applied and got instantly approved. 20K SPG points for $120 is a good deal... especially when you consider I'll use the 20K points for a free night at W Hotel in Hong Kong or Singapore where rates are $400-$500 a night

Do you do that normally and how often?

Yep - we'll know what the carnage will be when I get an updated Equifax report. Score of 750 to god knows what.

In reality it probably won't be too bad as AMEX has been counting my new accounts as being opened in 2009 when I got my first AMEX, actually increasing the average age of my accounts the more cards I've been getting.

The tough question now is do I transfer the 20K to Alaska for another EK F redemption or SQ to get closer to another Suites redemption.
