But that would mean I wouldn't be able to attempt for a repeated welcome bonus in a year's time.

Will wait a couple of years then reapply for a suitable bonus offer and hope it goes through despite recent changes wrt lifetime limits. Got the business card, with a family referral, so the outcome was better than a retention bonus in the end, which you should consider if you need/want a lot of "free" points.
In the US, they are giving out 10k pts or $100 retention offers like candy,

I've seen ppl write that they are getting that for sub 10k spend.

Any idea how long it takes for the Free Weekend Night from American Express Canada SPG to show up? I hit the $40K threshold on my April 2017 statement and when I looked for it today, I noticed it hadn't yet been deposited.

Check your SPG account. Should be under "Earned Awards"

That's where I checked. Just wondering how long it takes for it to show up.

Mine showed up literally days after I hit $40k in spend. Did you actually log in to spg.com to check??

Of course I logged in to spg.com. How else would I know that the free weekend night wasn't deposited?

Since your free weekend night was deposited within days of hitting $40K, it would appear that there is a delay so I'll reach out to Amex to see what's going on. Thanks.

Oh that's weird then. I was under the impression you were trying to locate it on the amex statement cuz it doesn't say anywhere there haha

This was my experience as well. It was well before the next monthly statement; pretty much as soon as your cross the threshold.

5000 Starpoints for paying $120 CAD membership fee, my annual spend is approx $15K/yr for the past two years.

I didn't get anything last year, the first anniversary of having the card. I've earned SPG Gold for the past few years by reaching either the 10 stay or 25 nights requirement, not by reaching the $30K SPG Amex annual spend.

I hope I get something when I call at renewal, planning to have $80k in spend approx cumulative by then. I just love this card.

Any recent feedback on Personal --> Biz referrals? Mrs. Banffflyr and I both have personal cards, and my referral for her on the personal card netted 10K plus her 20K initial spend bonus. One of us has now referred the other for the Biz card and I'm expecting the same experience on referral points as with the personal card. Any data points greatly appreciated.

We've done this in our household as well. Two SPG personal cards and two business cards (husband referring to wife). The last one was in 2015 for the business card and it worked without any issues (with applications from the same ISP address within our house). I think you'll be okay. We were both previous Amex customers for over 15 years (not new customers).

The welcome offer for the SPG Amex cards has incresed by 5,000 to 25,000.

New Starwood Preferred Guest®* Credit Card from American Express Cardmembers, earn 25,000 Welcome Bonus Starpoints®* after you charge $1500 in purchases to your Card in your first three months of Cardmembership. That’s enough for up to 2 free nights at a Category 5 property. Offer ends October 18th, 2017.

Harrumph.
I recently applied for the card (with the 20,000 offer). But I haven't yet received & activated the card.
Any suggestions how I might get ask / beg / plead for the extra 5,000 Starpoints?

And, with the new offer, are the referral bonuses unchanged?
