Hi.

I am sorry for thread crapping, but I am new to this and dont want to make some stupid mistake.

I was going to buy some coins on my new Rewards card but than I saw this message on the mint's site:

"The immediate bank deposit of $1 coins ordered through this Program does not result in their introduction into circulation and, therefore, does not comply with the intended
purpose of the Program."

could anybody advise me if there anything I should be worried about?

I am aware of the limit 4x$250 boxes per 10 days.

please PM me if it's not appropriate to post it here,

thanks a million

If you attempt to deposit these coins at the bank, the FBI will be called in by the teller and you may be forced to forfeit all of your assets to the US Mint.

I thought they sent an agent from the bureau of coins and token fraud to follow you home and take your dog or pee on your flowers.

Use the SEARCH feature on the toolbar above and you will see the legal and ethical discussions of this policy discussed here many times.

The idea is to get them into circulation, I did just that this past weekend by taking a couple of boxes of native american coins to my closest Indian casino...I felt it fitting to make my donation to the tribe in Native American coins. I will probably take a few boxes of presidents to Tunica in a couple of weeks. I will also use coins to pay my property taxes and car tags.

By the way, welcome to FT. Just as others have mentioned, go back a few pages and you should be able to find your answer.

Although sometimes we are just frustrated at the number of times the same question is raised, IMHO in no time should we need to post harsh comments like the other sites. We all had a moment that was new.

Cool Pulled over by the police

Okay so here is a story for you......

I live in between two small rural towns of about 4,000 people. I take my coins to two Walmarts to get money orders for $925 - $1,000 and spend the rest. I want to comply with the Mint and put the coins into circulation.

Today I come out of Walmart and am at the stop sign fumbling with my windows and then put my seat belt on before taking off. A cop is sitting there waiting and immediately pulls me over.

I ask why he pulled me over and he says for suspicious activity at Walmart. I explained that the vehicle was my husbands and not mine and I was trying to figure out how to unlock the passenger window so I could put it down.

He explained that the suspicious activity was the coins and wanted to know why I went to two different Walmarts and why I didn't put them in the bank. Walmart called the police because they were afraid they were counterfit.

I told him that I got them from the US Mint and that they were real money. I said that the Mint doesn't want them to be deposited, but put in circulation. I told him to go home and check it out on the web. I also explained that I went to two differents stores because I don't overwhelm and inundate one store with so many coins.

He asked if I had any more and I gave him 3 or 4 to look at that were sitting loose in my vehicle. He thought they were pretty cool and let me go free.

I told him that if Walmart was worried about them being counterfit they should at least ask for my license so they know who I am and have recourse incase I was a bad guy. He agreed.

I believe Walmart and Target may have a policy in which their employees are asked to accept any US currency even if they believe it to be counterfeit. After they money is accepted for the transaction they are asked to get a manager to have them inspect the currency and then call the police if they believe it is counterfeit. They are told never to confront a customer or try to stop them.

Pretty funny. Actually it may not make much sense to produce the fake coins as it may be expensive to do that. Also it will be cumbersome to handle them in large quantities. No wonder the Treasury is running a big deficit .

Okay, so it was just eatin' me that Walmart called the cops on me, so I called the store and asked for the CSR (Mgr.) that called them. Ya, I have guts!

I told her that I wanted to explain myself and the US Mint program. So I did.
I encouraged her to go onto the website and look at it. I told her my intention was to get the coins into circulation and that I spoke to the US Mint directly and asked, "What happens if Walmart turns around and puts them in the bank right away?" and the Mint told me that was okay, it was still into circulation.

The CSR wanted to know if there were any benefits for me in this. I explained that I am trying to do my part in putting the coins into circulation and helping the program out and that I enjoyed using them and saving some. I told her that it costs the government less to make coins less often than to print bill more frequently.

She asked me if I had to buy them. Duh? Ya! I told her that the Mint doesn't send them out to people for free, you have to buy them.

I wanted to know how she knew I was in the other Walmart and she said that the two stores share the same security system and they flagged me when they counted a total of 4 times of coin transactions (2 at each store). She was nice and told me that she would contact the other store and let them know that all was good and legit.

She didn't say that I couldn't bring in any more coins, so I intend on continuing between the two stores.

Glad to know that our esteemed Walmart still enforces strict I.Q. capacity controls within their staff. Or maybe its just another shining example of the american educational system. Either way welcome to the new world order.
