I just deposited $1,500 worth of coins into my bank account this afternoon.

The teller did pause and ask me where I got these (to which I responded they were a wedding gift), but other than that it was painless.

God bless the US Mint.

We're moving in a couple of months and my wife got all excited that we'd be able to get more coins.

Paying mortgage with coins - approved purpose or not?

Does paying my monthly mortgage count as an "approved purpose".

I will basically be taking a truck load of coins to my bank to apply to my mortgage account.

Is that the same as 'depositing in the bank' as opposed to paying my mortgage?

Could I ask the mint for clarifications on this?

Don't call them, their standard is "immeadiate bank deposit" you are not making a deposit you are paying a bill.

So, on the site it states a 2 box "cumulative limit" per item type and a 20 box "cumulative limit" for the NA Indian coins. So they will limit it per household or credit card?

Give them a call and see what they say. It might even be a valid reason for them to let you order more than the stated limit.

I would suggest not calling unless you have a problem with receiving your order. A "valid" reason would most likely be if you were a small bank or business that wants to distribute these dollar coins. You will just need to accept that you were late in coming into this and there are now limits.

The limit is per household, most have not had luck using different names or different credit cards. Some have had luck changing zip codes and their address a bit, but I have not seen many. There are many possibilities how they could find out that you are the same person, IP address, addresses attached to your credit card, email address, etc.....

You could plan ahead, and add "authorized users" to your cards now.

Also including the the end of quote would have been more instructive.

"... does not result in their introduction into circulation and, therefore, does not comply with the intended purpose of the Program."

Your narrow definition of "deposit" is misleading. Yes, the mortgagee can be pay his debt with coins but he still immediately conveys the Mint's coins into a bank and such a transaction does not result in the coins being circulated.

For personal Visas and MCs, AFAIK, the number would still be the same even if the name were different. So I don't think this will really help.
