Limit is $1 off per gallon up to 25 gallons across all programs. So, if you have 1100 points/11 rewards, it will only use 1000 points/10 rewards, and you get to keep the rest.

My worry with the gas points that are being awarded is that the cards might be “old,” ie cards pulled by scammers 18 months ago when you could still get points on the gift cards and have now been repopulated but tampered with, as only some flavors of the VGCs have earned bonus points for me but two were tampered with.

Confirmed Balloons VVGC gave 1000 fuel rewards.

I open these now, and register them online same day. Once the issuer even phoned me when they triggered on some charge to verify it. Having it registered gives you a leg up, on the fraud dispute process. I stow the Safeway receipt in envelope as well, as it's one of the things they will request.

Scammers can reclose the package and you probably can't tell. BUT all of my fraud case the spots of card-glue were either missing or obviously not factory. Don't leave unopened packages in inventory.

I've had a couple of tampered VGCs from Vons over the years. Never lost any $$ though because I *always* buy the gift card and then go *immediately* to liquidate. You have to treat these things like a grenade with a pulled pin!

Like the other poster said for Sunoco, same holds true for Chevron. The limit is 20c/gallon saving which doesn't help me since the Costco prices are better by 30c+/gallon.

I did get 1000 points (10 rewards) by buying the right $500 VGC but while using it at Chevron it is capped to 20c/2 rewards. I still have the balance of 8 rewards. Though not useful for me, seems like a decent stack for those with safeway gas stations.

Look into your safeway just for you. $10 off for 7 gas points. This is a winning proposition for those of us that don't drive a lot or buy GCs a lot.

The $10 off will not work with GC purchases; the terms state that alcohol, fluid dairy, prescriptions, gift cards, etc are all excluded.

Good catch. Still, for regular groceries, it's easy to get to that number ...
