THIS IS A WIKI TO AN OLD THREAD THAT IS NO LONGER BEING MAINTAINED!
This is a new thread for 2017. The previous discussion can be found here.
The new thread for 2018 is here.
DETAILS:
Bill Pay cannot be done at a regular register. BP must be done at Customer Service/Returns or at the Money Center in stores that have it.
WM offers two BP services: CheckFreePAY and MoneyGram. The cashier can initiate CheckFreePAY by selecting Money Services followed by Bill Pay on the register for a fee of $1-1.88. Moneygram is $4.99.
ONLY 4 successful debit card swipes can pay for a transaction. ONLY 5 payments per 16 digit account number per rolling 30 days.
CheckFreePay (800) 676-6148. - Look up payments using CC number and time of transaction
Standard BP- Once your CFP account is set up, you can add CC. When you want to BP give them your phone# to look up your account under Money Services. They often get confused and think you want MG, but just say it is under Money Services. Make sure you get 2 receipts, one from WM and a small one from CFP showing the CC# and Biller name you paid.
WM App - The Money Services works in express lane for BP, but has issues making 2 or more payments in a row. Make one BP, then come back or do another trans, then another BP to avoid issues. Make sure you get a BP receipt in the app and it shows the BP info and the CC you paid before leaving the store.
Some tips: If you don't get a receipt and they have to print you one, make sure the CC you paid appears on the printed receipt. If not on receipt, call CFP with the manager to verify there is no payment processing. They can cancel any transactions and pay you in cash right away. If they cancel the transaction and their cash drawer opens, that means they should pay you in cash, if it doesn't open, the money will probably return to your cards. Not sure what happens on the same day? Watch their drawer when they cancel the transaction to see if it opens. If they say the money will return to your DC, make sure to write down the managers name in case it doesn't.
BUSINESS DAY transaction completion time is 18:59:59 EST (Holidays change post day)

Not exactly. In WMs I have been to, both with and without MCs, the express line is serviced by the same clerks that are servicing regular customers. So you do cause a disturbance in the force, both in terms of holding up the regular line as well as generating nasty looks from those in the line. I don't mind using airline elite lines, but the WM express lane is a horse of another color ...

Be prepared from some dirty looks and verbal comments from other line standers, esp. if you happen to be of a noticeably different demo/ethnographfic group from those line standers.

as we all know, WMSCs don't work/function the same way. My go-to WM has a sign posted to try the WM app at the Express Lane for faster transactions which means they're encouraging people to use it; although many prefer to use the regular line at my store(s). To each, their own preference. The same signs posted at the pharmacy tells me they are pushing use of the app and really proving how fast and easy it is. For whatever reasons, some WMs may just be vigorous in advertising use of their app so they've assigned cashiers to attend to Express Lane soon as they see a customer in line.
btw, Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays ya'll!

FWIW -- All WMs I've been to have the new signage, floor stripes, etc. No question that Corporate is encouraging app use. But I have not yet seen a single situation where there is a truly dedicated CSR for the express lane.

If you take regular line for express payment, a CSR may feel bad for you and less likely to ask to see your debt cards.

For WM APP BP using 4 GCs, do i have to tell the cashier how much i am paying from each GC or does it auto drain the max value of the card?

All these Billpay refunds is making me nervous as the auditor in our store now asks questions to my favorite employee if money laundering is happening. They might brought it up with a corporate meeting. Most walmart on my area are not accepting this payment method anymore, Computerization and system problems might be cause of our store's demise.
I do not blame the person who might have jeopardized this for us but it really does hurt that we are now affected by it. Only do money orders for my transactions.

WM registers don't drain V/MC GCs when using the app or when paying at the register lane. The only GCs I've seen them drain are their own store GCs when I use those with small balance. I press PURCHASE after swiping at POS, register recalculates balance and if I have more store GCs, I have swiped up to 5 until full balance is paid.

Based on DPs I've read, they may put a stop to split tender when buying MOs or doing B/P without banning the use of "debit" cards as tender although that may be a last resort. Most cashiers I've talked to including senior CSMs prefer debit payments because they don't have to handle and check large bills paid to them.

Before the APP, i would specify total BP amount and then specify how much i am paying from each VGC. I usually do no more than 2 cards. I haven't tried the WM APP yet, just want to make sure if it is the same paying with multiple cards.

If i am doing a BP for 400 with two VGC using the WM APP BP, I would scan the QR code and then tell cashier I am paying 200 first? or do i enter how much I am paying on the key pad myself?

The 'only' step the app skips is the entering of the account and other info before you pay.
Most of the time you don't get a receipt. It should be in the app too, but be sure you save it or check it ASAP.
and only last 5 are kept in transaction history.

There are also refunds involved when buying MOs, most often issues are due to cashier error and/or MO printer malfunction.
