This is the master thread for all VGC and MCGC sold at Staples.
The previous discussion can be found here.

The VGCs sold at Staples are issued by Metabank and serviced by Blackhawk Network.
The activation code for online purchase comes with the card. Cards purchased at store are activated at check-out.
To activate cards over the phone (without activation codes), call (877) 426-2551 to talk to a rep.
To activate cards over the web, www.giftcardkey.com.
The default PIN number is the last four digits of the card number but can be changed online.

As of 5/12/2014, all known portals are dead.

Earn 5x points with Chase Ink, or Simply Cash for 5% cash back
Buy Visa gift cards (Metabank) at Staples ($200 for $7.95) or the website ($300 for $8.95).

2k Limit per transaction / 10k per day for online. In-store is usually 2k but YMMV
Often times, there are promotions with no or reduced activation fees

The store I saw that sign yesterday is a bit off the beaten path, and had full shelves yesterday. My nearby one was almost empty on Friday, so I imagine it's totally empty today.

As an aside, some of my stores still have displayed the ads for MCGCs on sale 2 weeks ago.
I am talking about the dates posted on the sign, so I imagine if the offer does not go through you can ask the manager about it.

Actually, it IS a two week promo as I successfully purchased five VISAs today without an activation fee.

Just wonder how most of you guys cash in those $200 cards. Multi swipes for MO? Or paying some bills with them? I just paid a large bills with several of those cards at the expenses of CC rewards. It is like swapping the 5x (or 5%) for the 2x (or 2%) on spending.

Multi-swipe MOs for me. Bills are a backup plan, at effective 7.5%+ return for me it's worth it either way.

I primarily use them for tax payments, the 7.5% reward helps me justify the 2.5% processing fee.

VGC promo is still going at my local store, they even re-stocked mid-promo and still have a good amount of cards. Next week Staples is doing fee-free MCGC promo. I guess these deals help them make store revenues for Q4 look better, since there likely was less demand for school supplies this year.

To each his own. I have a solid relationship with my WM and certain CSRs. I'll do 4 to 5 loads per visit on my amex reloadable cards. Load $600 (3 x $200) per transaction. 5 loads liquidates $3k at $0 liquidation cost. In and out in 10 minutes. Sure, not as quick as when I load $1k VGC with 1 swipe but still pretty damn easy.

Hm... I've never seen that. I'm in metro Atlanta an have done Bluebird reloads at 10+ Walmarts and no such thing of $500 limit per load. Sometimes they do restrict it to one swipe depending on the CSR amount, but no load limits except for the $2,000 one by BB itself.

I believe the BB daily limit is $2,500.

Has anyone had a problem using $300 VGC (GCM/Staples) at Walmart (loading GB card)?

Tried 4 swipes, didn't even get to PIN.
