Churnable to get repeated 5x rewards?

Not possible
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/22871522-post710.html

How to pay down CL quickly?
Use WF account to pay

Likely to get shut down if...?
- Cycling several times through your CL
- Cause a negative balance
- Have a really high balance
- Calling in and getting caught by human eyes on bestiality activities.

To check what your 5X/5% window is:
In your account summary page on WF website, go into the CC, and click "show my rewards" on the left side, then click "Visit Wells Fargo Rewards"
From there go to "Earn Rewards" on the top and click "My Offers" and go into the "Promotional Offers-Usage" tab.

To check which transactions get 5X/5% before your statement posts
To check if new transactions are eligible, go to "My Rewards" on the top, click "Activity", and set the start/end dates. You should see a "bonus earning" 4% for anything that's eligible.

What to do when transaction not going through due to FA?

Those who had their cards closed, did this affect your checking and savings accounts? Or mortgage?

It's not like they can call your mortgage early, but checking and savings will be toast.

The key is whether or not WF suspects what you are buying at the grocery store falls outside the terms. Amex shut lots of people down from OBC over the past two months based upon its suspicions given volume (and, in my opinion, analytics concerning purchase patterns and amounts that happen to coincide with $500 GC + activation fees).

Let's be honest-- somebody didn't just wake up one morning and randomly decide to update the terms. The change came about because WF already suspects that people are using the card for MSing and it is realizing it is paying out more than anticipated/modeled for cashback benefits. The term changes will allow WF to do what Amex has already done. It is just a matter of time before the detection processes catch up with the term restrictions.

I agree. And they have made the revisions of T&C ahead of time to inform their clients so they know what they can expect. Outright ignoring of such revisions will not save anyone from AA, should it come anytime later.

as always, it's a gamble. no one can stop those determined to do what they want; they're also the only ones who rake in the benefits (or AA) later.

I made several vgc purchases on 01-14-15. They are showing in my rewards activity as paying 1% but showing 0 for the 5% bonus. I would proceed with caution.

Hmm...that is interesting. I guess we need to see more data points to see if this is a game changer.

Agreed. It'd be helpful to know what triggers the 5% to 1% switch. Is it the amount, e.g. >$200 or >$500?

I got full points on my GC purchases (over $4k worth) from the evening of 1/14. Whoever is in their last month, or has no pending rewards should go try it out now. I'd do it but I'm waiting on pending rewards to post first.

According to the new terms, GCs should earn NO points at all, not just 1x, so poster above who got no bonus might not be reading the report correctly.

I made a few gc purchases 1/14/2015 - 1/15/2015 at drugstores. All showing 1% + extra 4%.

To test out the new reward terms, I made a single ~$500 gc purchase 1/16/2015 at a drugstore. Also showing 1% + extra 4%.

My statement should close in a few days. No more gc purchases until then

Lets hope that the OP was reading the report incorrectly.

5000+ in one day? WF will definitely scrutinize those transactions.

The amount is not the issue so lets forget about that.

I got this card at the end of December. My first statement just closed yesterday. All my grocery transactions have posted with the base and bonus rewards. My last GC purchase was done on 1/16 and that has posted with the bonus too.

Bonus Earning 3117 1/19/2015 5X Cash Back for Gas, Grocery & Drug Store for 6 Months $390.12 1,560 Available
Base Earning 3117 1/19/2015 GIANT 0243 STAFFORD VA $390.12 390 Available

This is from my rewards account. The purchase was on 1/16, it posted on the 19th. (And yes, I'm new. I've been doing some odd amounts kind of testing the waters first.)
