Bonus category spending is now capped at $50k per year for new accounts. For now, this does not apply to existing cardholders, although Amex may continue to close accounts for excessive spend in bonus categories. This card is less viable as an MS instrument. Consider factors that may have led to these closures when sharing personal experiences.

Some who have been shutdown are reporting back that AMEX is declining new non-OBC card applications due to "unsatisfactory relationship". (However, see here for an example where reconsideration was successful.) It is unclear at this time the length/extent of this Adverse Action/Ban.
Others have succeeded in getting new cards, including new OBCs, but consider your relationship with Amex and how much you value that and this card when deciding how to use it.
There might be some impact with other issuers. If AMEX sends you a cancellation it goes on your record as a cancellation by AMEX, not a cancellation by cardholder. While FICO score does not distinguish between closed by issuer and closed by cardholder, on manual review it may raise questions. However, issuers close cards for benign reasons as well (such as non-use) so unless several cards have been closed it probably won't cause a rejection by itself.
So, if you still feel it is worth it:

If you get the error message "You cannot be logged in. Please contact the number on the back of your card." when trying to redeem Reward Dollars online, it may be because you have too many closed accounts still showing in your scrolling images of cards. It looks like some people were able to add it 24 hours later. It prompted me to create a second amex login which I did. I'm wondering if I should ask to have them merged?
Can someone please confirm they have both a BCP or BCE and the Blue Cash managed within the same login? I'd like to move some credit line from the BCP > Blue Cash.

What would be an ideal CL to make this worthwhile?
I too applied for this card and got pending decision... I then remembered I already have this card as an AU on my mother's account! If I go for this what should I set CL to. She has good relationship with Amex and I don't want to ruin it by running up the card too fast...

Just called in and had no trouble with a product change from BCE to this. Rep confirmed the 5% cashback features. At the same time I requested a transfer of $15k of the CL from my Delta Skymiles card to this account. Rep processed that request for approval and told me I'd receive a decision within 10 business days.
I was planning to apply for a WF card once my TYP runs out in a few months, but this was a lot easier.

2nd call: immediately told the 5% card was killed last year and nobody can apply for it now. i asked for a super
the "super" was immediately familiar with the 5% BC card and told me all the benefits and asked if i wanted it. turns out she was no super--she was in the "new applications" dept! she said no PC available (because that's what the previous agent told her) and if i wanted anything other than a new application, i need to go back to the general customer service pool. fwiuw, they said if a customer calls and ASKS for the 5% card as a new application though, they still issue it.
will try a 3rd time later before i give up. :/

Perhaps I will give a second call. Though, given the effort the rep made, I am not really positive another rep or super helps any better.

My wife tried to PC the BCP but was told that she would need to restart a new application for it! We said no and I applied on my own since I am the one doing the MS anyway and was instantly approved.

just applied, was approved instantly. Anyone know how to check the credit limit I was approved for? I made my amex login, but it said to wait 24 hours before i can actually login and see data.
This should be a good card to keep around, as I didnt have any amex cards, and have been jealous of these sync offers that keep popping up.

Negative....called 3 times to convert a regular blue with a 55K credit line
....no dice ...first CS said I need to apply for a new one and the second/third times CS said its no longer offered but can convert to the current Blue CE or Blue CP...

applied and was denied immediately..wonder what' going on. Score is pretty good but I think the denial might be due to recent CC apps (3 in last 2.5 months for AA Buss, Alaska 50k and US Air Barclay). Total 4 cards with amex (and 2 auth. cards). Score is 750+
